The Country Girl - a Richmond matinee
Sunday, 15 August 2010 09:48 amYes, I know it's total madness, but... went to see The Country Girl at Richmond Theatre, yesterday... *g* Well it's interesting seeing the different performances, and... *vbg*
I actually thought that the performance yesterday has improved since Windsor - quite alot, no matter how much I liked the Windsor performances. For example, I desperately missed the moment when MS got down on his knees so easily, and then back up again as he tried to describe seeing Elgin's character as a wily fox, but I think the way Elgin paced around trying to work out how he felt about the character was far more realistic - you could feel him trying to work it out. I could feel JS's character this time too - she seems to have injected much more passion into Georgie, somehow, I could feel that Frank had worn her down throughout their life but that she didn't have the strength to leave him. She's still fluffing lines, though... Oh and there's a moment when Elgin has been offered the part, and is left alone with Georgie to decide, and when MS followed her around stage with his eyes, you could feel his uncertainty and self-doubt, and the way he absolutely relied on her. I didn't get any of that from the first performances.
And the theatre itself is gorgeous - all pouting cherubs and swirls and scoops of architecture! And there was coffee and Pros-y chat again too, cos I was there with our gorgeous
