It was a joke at first, Bodie grabbing him in boisterous rapture when his horse came in, Lake appearing in the doorway and asking whether they'd set a date, because he could never be bothered with the Grand National, so that Bodie held him even tighter, and Doyle wrapped his own arms around him and smiled broadly, and...

...and then all he could feel was Bodie pressed against him, muscle and warmth and life all down his body, and breath and heartbeat and everything he'd ever wanted and he wanted it again now, though they were in a room crowded with people, with agents, with men who'd been trained to observe and draw conclusions...

And Bodie, who was more even than his other half, made a show of nuzzling past his hair and kissing his cheek, right by his ear, so that he could whisper Home - now!, so that Doyle could let him go, and take him by the hand and call him - "Come on then, Butch" - as he pulled him from the room...

And something slightly else that I noticed at the same time... )
