byslantedlight: (Bookshelf colour (grey853).)
I desperately needed a book on Thursday, but the libraries were all closed, and town is far too painful to get in and out of and park if you can avoid it, so I ended up at the Supermarket I Try to Avoid, and the selection was actually worse than I'd been hoping. The books were pretty much all pink (romance) or all black (thriller/whodunnit), with the odd Nick Hornby thrown in (who I wasn't quite in the mood for either). I ended up with the least-pink looking book, and another that I've been meaning to try for a while cos it's all the current rage (or was a bit ago, I tend to be behind the current rage... *g*) Anyway, the not-pink book was:
JustAGirlStandingInFrontOfABoy(Lucy-AnneHolmes)

And it was brilliant! I really enjoyed it, and raced through in just a few sittings because I didn't want to put it down (but had to because there was work...) It is undeniably a romance, and it's definitely a book that you can tell has been shoved in the chicklet genre because there's pink on the cover, wee hearts, and a drawn-couple standing together. Plus of course the title. But - it is more than chicklit (as "chicklit" sometimes is - it's not actually a synonym for modern-Mills-and-Boon). And it turns out that the author founded the No More Page 3 campaign - brilliant (and whilst I'm here, see link at the bottom of the page... *g*).
