Which was actually a post I stayed up last night to make, but lj wouldn't let me. It's been ages since I had a real glitch like that! So - yesterday!

A sudden downburst of rain...

...and Wells when we came out from seeing Ghostbusters.

And Ghostbusters was not what I expected! All the reviews I read focused on the four women playing the roles, and whether they were any good etc., but none of them actually said that it just wasn't a very good movie - gargh! I mean, at no point did I consider walking out, but I'm just not entirely sure what the point was of making the film - everything was pretty much just the same as the last one, with lots of product placement, and special effects that we've now also seen done in Buffy and Torchwood, never mind everything else (ditto portal-to-hell having opened and letting stuff out). We saw it in 3D, and I'm quite glad we did cos I'm pretty sure the 2D version must be even more disappointing - although that said, it was also a lousy excuse for a 3D movie, and I wasn't sure why they bothered!

The opening scene was the best scene in the film, I reckon, a bit funny and quite suspenseful, and a bit of a nod to ghost films in general cos blokey knew exactly what he'd done when he'd done it, and so did we... but the trouble with that was that it set you up for the rest of the story to be on the same level - and it just wasn't at all.

So there were bound to be cute Ghostbusters in-jokes at least, right? Nudge-nudge wink-wink we're-a-remake kind of stuff, cos that's what films do now, and we all feel clever and happy with ourselves, right? Nope, I've just been spoiled by Sherlock and all - there were maybe a couple of vague references, which I can't even remember now, but so quickly done that the eye just kind of slid over them instead of enjoying them.

Basically - I wanted so much more! I wanted an actual 2016 remake, which acknowledged all the stuff in between, but it was just an ordinary slapstick gosh-we're-whacky-and-rebellious-and-determined-and-plucky movie. Oh well - it was fun going to see a movie in general!

Also went to pilates this morning, and that was good. All of which means I'm 20 pages behind in work for today - luckily this deadline is tomorrow... I think I do feel more core-ishly balanced, though. *g* Oh, and I paid my tax before the deadline, like a good girl.

And am on the last Temeraire book now, too! Which has been fun, and makes me looking yearningly at my Aubrey/Maturin books, but I'm going to be good and read all the other books that I've bought this year first. Not to mention the books I've bought in previous years, and had stacked up to read for the Mount TBR challenge. I will finish my climb, I will! But for now - bed again...

How're you doing, now that it's Friday? *wanders off to find coffee and grimace at work*
