Today's happy was the weather this morning - it started off as one of those hazy-sky-ed days where the sun is bright but mellow, and there's a promise of summer warmth... even in October.

Also it was bookgroup night, and most people enjoyed the book that I chose - The Birthday Boys by Beryl Bainbridge, about Scott's Antarctic expedition. She's an excellent writer, and it all felt very true to me - which it wasn't, because it's one of those novelised historicals, which I'm never quite sure about. If they're really good, like this one, then they catch people's imagination, and might end up being thought of as the truth. On the other hand - how can you not write something wonderful about such a thing as Scott's expedition...?

And finally, I'm writing this in the advert for Great British Bake-Off - an Extra Slice. Not quite as good as the actual thing, but a nice thing to go to bed with...

Oh - not entirely finally! I'm also re-reading Ember Days by O. Yardley. *g* I know there's all the Big Bangs coming out, but I've not had a chance to get my printer on yet...
