8th October - a month of autumn to Halloween

Not quite so long today, what with being back at work and all...

The Wild Swans at Coole

The trees are in their autumn beauty,
The woodland paths are dry,
Under the October twilight the water
Mirrors a still sky;
Upon the brimming water among the stones
Are nine-and-fifty swans.

The nineteenth autumn has come upon me
Since I first made my count;
I saw, before I had well finished,
All suddenly mount
And scatter wheeling in great broken rings
Upon their clamorous wings.

I have looked upon those brilliant creatures,
And now my heart is sore.
All's changed since I, hearing at twilight,
The first time on this shore,
The bell-beat of their wings above my head,
Trod with a lighter tread.

Unwearied still, lover by lover,
They paddle in the cold
Companionable streams or climb the air;
Their hearts have not grown old;
Passion or conquest, wander where they will,
Attend upon them still.

But now they drift on the still water,
Mysterious, beautiful;
Among what rushes will they build,
By what lake's edge or pool
Delight men's eyes when I awake some day
To find they have flown away?

Prosfic for October
Today I went back to my Discovered on All Hallow's Eve zine and picked a story at random - which turned out to be Transfigurations by PRZed. Another nice little story - though Halloween-y to the point that it involved a halloween party (which is suspending disbelief a little bit when a story's set here in the late '70s/early '80s, but it could have happened).

Icon Posting Project - Day 23

I haven't forgotten my icon posting - I guess it was slightly inevitable that I wouldn't entirely keep up with it while posting for autumn too... But it's October, and new starts, and things like that, so let's see if I can keep up better from today!

Today's icon is by enednoviel, who was one of my first lj-friends way way back in 2005. Lots of people would make icons then, and post them to the_safehouse for people to take and use, and enednoviel was one of those people. I lost track of her a while ago, and she's not been on lj for a while - hope she's doing okay...
I tend to use this icon when I'm either a bit cross about something, or perhaps frowning slightly at it in a really? kind of way! Although sometimes for other things too - it's called BD confront in my icon list, cos that's what the lads are doing... *g*
