Pros Travelblog - Day Eleven - Sunday - Devon...

Woke up still in Cornwall (sort of...) and headed through Launceston via a motte and bailey castle for
kiwisue...

...and then Roadford Reservoir for me, cos many many years ago I was on a rescue dig there and there's actually a board in the new visitor centre with a pic of Hennard Jaffer, which was exactly where I was!

Before (when I was there!) and now... A wee bit different - just imagine that house under that water... medieval settlement, that was. Sunken settlement now, I guess...
Then further north to Exeter, where we were meeting
foxcat74. It had all been a bit Pros-less so far though - so it was a bit of a relief to drive the road to Cowley on the way... *g*

Then chatting and lunching with Pros-y people which is always lovely, and then the very clever
foxcat74 took us to visit gorgeously 1920s Coleton Fishacre...

...which was the home of the D'oyly Cartes! So that was two out of three, but even better we could just imagine an AU 1920s fic, with our lads in evening jackets, all elegant and perhaps sharing the adjoining bedrooms... *g*
Plus of course Coleton Fishacre is gorgeous!

And I adored these deep deep purple irises...
Then off to Berry Head, where we watched sailboats crossing the sea, and wandered the Napoleonic fort, and decided that Bodie would have been in the army, and Doyle infiltrating the unit, working for Cowley of course... *g*

The fishing boats were all heading home then too, followed by trails of seagulls...

...and so did we.
To pizza and wine and George Gently - wheee! What did everyone think of it? I can't believe GG doesn't vote! How bad a message is that?! And... did Bacchus decide to stay in the end? I liked seeing his wife... I'd better not write spoilers here, but... Hmmn! *g*
And now... now we're about to dash out for our last day of holiday - back to Cambs. tonight, back to work tomorrow - waaah! Though of course
kiwisue goes on, and there are still Pros-y people around, so... It'll still be nice, right? Right? Eeep...

Date: Monday, 25 May 2009 12:13 pm (UTC)You have certainly shown us some lovely places and buildings. Funny how every place you visit, you seem to see B/D stories there. *bg*
I'm glad you've had some good weather and hope work hasn't hit you too hard.

Date: Tuesday, 26 May 2009 12:15 pm (UTC)I really do think that I should have been born independently wealthy though, so that I could wander at whim and think Pros-y things all day long! *g*

Date: Monday, 25 May 2009 09:04 pm (UTC)It all looks ace and I am so glad you've both had such nice weather, and such a nice trip. Hooray! And the fun continues despite work (she says) - why aren't holidays longer? I've just whooshed back from the Lake District and am in love with the houses and the lakes - so don't want to go back to work tomorrow! I wish I looked up whether there was Pros fic written about the lakes now... maybe we should make a map of Pros fic locations around the country and then we'll all know what story is set where - big job though! So fun to find these things though - those plants you found that reminded you of the plants Bodie spotted in Island Innocents really did make me giggle! *g*

Date: Tuesday, 26 May 2009 12:19 pm (UTC)The fun should continue, shouldn't it! We should be in Cornwall and the Lakes until we want to come back, right?!
And yeay Pros fic locations - I was thinking that we should at least do a Pros Fic Locations Storylist, but I like the idea of an actual map too - I wonder if you could make up one of those GoogleEarth tours, in fact?!
Bodie's plants were fab, and they will forever be Bodie's plants to me now... *g*
Hope you're surviving your day back too - and re MsMoat, are you free the weekend of the 6th, at all?

Date: Thursday, 28 May 2009 08:43 pm (UTC)Eep, Blitz parties! It would have been much easier if it'd been the coming weekend, wouldn't it! A Blitz party! *g*
*holds thought carefully*

Date: Thursday, 28 May 2009 08:50 pm (UTC)The coming weekend would have worked better in a way, but I am still hopeful for the 6th - it all depends if that pal has bought tickets. I hope she hasn't! And yes - Blitz party! Some little place in Shoreditch (it would be Shoreditch of course - ultra trendy) where everyone wears 40s gear and the club is covered in sandbags apparently. And the music is swing and old style jive. I thought it sounded interesting, in a hmmmmmmm sort of way. Not sure what to wear though - maybe bung a few rollers in my hair, that should do it *g*

Date: Thursday, 28 May 2009 08:56 pm (UTC)Yeay more Magenta icons! I suck at making icons - I have no eye for things until I actually see them, you know? I shall have to stick to nicking ones I like... I need more people to post icons! Mind, then I'd have to change some of mine... Hmmn! *g* But, oh, that one... *vbg* His lips, that smile, that bliss... *sighs happily*

Date: Thursday, 28 May 2009 04:59 pm (UTC)I bet the lads would do underwater archaeology on the hamlet, actually... *has archaeology-head on today...*
