From what I've heard, none of the sequels to Pride and Prejudice carry over well. It was a different time, and people, especially women, were seen differently. Their roles in life were certainly different. But too many writers, it seems, turn the characters into 21st century role models. The women become strong, the men sensitive. I doubt that what happens in the book would have ever really happened.
