byslantedlight: (Black sun)

Well of course I didn't bring my camera with me, cos I'm in the archives so I had to bring my lappie and I'm on my bike so I didn't want to crash and burn with all my expensive gear, but... I couldn't resist trying to take a pic today anyway. This is the current view from my window at work - doesn't it look rather Ashcloud Of Doom-ish? *g*

I wish I'd had my camera coming in though, cos there was a definite dustiness to the sky and to the clouds, I thought - yeah, it could be my imagination, but... the colour seems a little bit off, and there's a slightly different... density? to the clouds, and the way the sun is shining through them...

Was disappointed by the sunset last night, mind - was expecting great things, but even though we had some cloud for it to be dramatic around, it was just ordinary... and sunrise seemed to be as well... Did anyone have a fab sunset last night?

Oh - also, our world! There's a huge volcanic eruption in Iceland that sends ash whirling through our upper atmosphere (look, cool moving graphic up to this morning - we had "thin ice cloud"! *g*) and means people nearby have to be evacuated, etc etc and what does the media focus in on? That UK planes are grounded and people can't get back from holiday... *headdesk* It takes a serious amount of effort to find out anything about what's actually going on with anything except the bloody aeroplanes! And I like aeroplanes - well fascinated by what it can do to them - but eternal whinging on about not being able to get home? Isn't anyone at all interested in how amazing the reason is that they can't? The world is still wild, people! When something similar happened in the 1700s, with the Laki eruption, it was remarked on all around the world - and brought about famine and the French Revolution! (Well, you know... *g*) What do we sulk about, through our lattes and in our pampered times? Irritations! *headdesk*

*g* Anyone see anything cool and Ashcloud of Doom-ish? (Don't you wish you were up in the Shetlands?! No? Just me, then?)
