“I’m surprised Betty didn’t have it down yesterday,” Doyle said, trying for lightness.
“Oh I dunno,” Bodie made a valiant effort to match him. “Was a good photo - was a bit glam in her younger days, our Betty.”
“Yeah…” Doyle took the pint Jax passed him, and silence descended on the small table again.
Yeah. Whoever had chosen the advent pictures had made sure the tree would stay, now.
“He loved that eyepatch, mad bastard. Must be the only photo we’ve got of him.”
“To the eyepatch!” Ruth raised her glass.
They drank, and outside, snow began to fall.
