Apparitions Ep 6...

Well, just...
... just gosh!
That were good, wannit?
Well I liked it - and I adored that it was a grey ending, that Jacob didn't win outright, although he won the battle he was fighting, and... yes... (And of course the way is clear for another series, since they didn't defeat Armageddon, or anything like that... *g*)
The worst thing is that I'm anticipating all the criticisms that people will have of it - the Jewish guy was still a baddie in the end (except that he wasn't actually Jewish, if he had no god, just as he hadn't been Christian, so...) - there was too much gore, there was too littlegore melodrama/surprises/twists... It was too religious, it wasn't religious enough, the ending was too predictable, too ridiculous, too... whatever anyone can think of, I imagine...
I don't care, I enjoyed it for what it was, just like I enjoy Pros for what it is and don't care about the bloopers and weird plot devices and so on in those eps, either...
Who me? Defensive? *g* I dunno, but I think it did a brilliant job - it did get people talking about it, and thinking about it, and it was different from alot of what's been on lately, so...
Plus - Jacob looked good... *g*
I dunno - anyone got anything sensible to say?! Maybe I should have let it soak in for a bit, but mostly I just want to watch it again, now...

Date: Thursday, 18 December 2008 10:25 pm (UTC)there was too much gore
Is this to do with what I said?! I don't think being objective about something means it's not good or that I don't like it as much as you do! In fact it shows that the programme is worthy of scrutiny.
I thought MS was very good in it and the whole thing was riveting - perfect or not......

Date: Thursday, 18 December 2008 10:32 pm (UTC)Not at all - alot of people have complained about too much gore, not least in the papers before we (the viewing public, not the media!) had even seen all the eps! I was just commenting generally about one of the criticisms levelled at it and saying that I enjoyed it anyway.
And as you say, I think it is one of the things that make people think and talk about the show, which I love in comparison to shows that I might enjoy at the time but immediately forget about and move on... More substance to it! *g*
and the whole thing was riveting - perfect or not...
Hear, hear! *vbg*

Date: Thursday, 18 December 2008 10:36 pm (UTC)Oooo - he is such a fine man... that was my main thought. He got slapped as well! (Why is that worthy of an exclamation mark? *frowns at self*) All the actors are just brilliant I think, and BAFTA is another thought that was running through my head, I mean surely - if not for MS (and it should be for him!) then for the director of photography, or supporting actors, or well, something!
Maybe I haven't read around it enough, but have there been tons of criticism on it? People will always criticise, but it already has another series accepted, hasn't it, so let them say what they like, enough others will like it. It's keeping my fella intrigued (and even despite him now realising the Pros-y connection!) and he is a hard viewer to win over!
Is that sensible?! I'm not sure I can be, all I want to do is wibble over Jacob / MS, and think grown-up-Doyle!

Date: Thursday, 18 December 2008 10:41 pm (UTC)Me, too! And the whole hour went by really quickly which is rare for me as far as TV goes. I thought MS was excellent - looking tired and world-weary when the part required and rested when he'd finally come through the ordeal. And I loved the scene when the demon tries to chat him up. And the nun....I loved that nun...

Date: Thursday, 18 December 2008 10:43 pm (UTC)He is rather fine, isn't he?! And ohhhh for when he was trying to say Mass, and when he was trying to be exorcised, and when he was all tear-y and for when he got slapped, and... he's still pretty when he's in agony... *is a bad, bad person...*
I've been flicking between various posts via the Pros Newsletter links, and there seems to be such huge divisions amongst people about it - which is perfect, which is exactly what MS said they wanted, which was to get people thinking! There've been complaints about too much drama, not enough drama, too much melodrama, not enough surprises, too many heart-stopping moments, too much blood and gore, too much religion, not enough/the right kind of religion... *headdesk* But people are watching, so nyer to them all anyway! Father Jacob wins!
Oh, although I still want to know what's happened in his past, cos I'm sure there's something... He went all quiet when the satan-woman talked about love and families, and he just smiled sweetly when she suggested he was one of those priests... *vbg*
Yeay your fella having much taste! Plus also it's still making me giggle now and then to think that he's finally sussed the Pros connection... *vbg*

Date: Thursday, 18 December 2008 10:47 pm (UTC)And ohh for MS - he still looks gorgeous when he's in pain too... *is bad*... But when he was trying to say Mass and couldn't? And afterwards when Bukovac was talking to him? And he just... and he... oh, and he has that sorrowful look, too, just... worlds of sadness... so beautifully done!
And yes! I hadn't thought about it like that, but he did seem rested and refreshed when it was all over, didn't he?! It's like his face was going in much happier, more peaceful directions... Who'd think that skin could do so much?! *vbg*
Oh, and yes for the demon chatting him up too - adored his slightly world-weary-but-still-constant way of dealing with her...

Date: Thursday, 18 December 2008 11:02 pm (UTC)I didn't see the bit when he was trying to say Mass, just tuned in when Vincenzo (is that right? Hm, will just say Vinnie), when Vinnie was beginning the exorcism and they were facing eachother, and oh when he couldn't repeat the words, this is just such a great role for him. He looks very cinematic in this...
Yay, Father Jacob wins! I must admit I hid my eyes for the burnt nun/demon. Eek!
It's been all quiet on the Western front about the Pros connection recently. He didn't mention it at all during last week's Apparitions, although he did try and distract me during the swimming pool scene come to think of it... *g*

Date: Friday, 19 December 2008 08:10 am (UTC)Hee for distracting you during the swimming pool scene - how cute is that! (If presumably quite annoying... *g*)

Date: Friday, 19 December 2008 08:27 am (UTC)Great news! I will have a positive marathon of Appn's and hope there will be more *g* (can't have too much, MS on the telly).
Ta!

Date: Friday, 19 December 2008 08:29 am (UTC)A marathon of Father Jacob sounds just fabulous... enjoy! I might have to have one myself, sometime over the holidays...
I was so sad last night, thinking that MS wouldn't be on the telly again for ages - waaah!

Date: Friday, 19 December 2008 08:48 am (UTC)And I think the actor who plays Michael is excellent in the part... I do find myself wishing LC was playing Bukovac (although that actor is good too).
Now I'm praying (*g*) they'll commission a second series and that the DVDs will have lots of lovely MS extras!

Date: Friday, 19 December 2008 09:04 am (UTC)I must get my dvds ordered actually - wheeee, hurry up January, and please may there be extras! He sounded so happy about the series that there might be, right? *crosses fingers and all* *g*

Date: Friday, 19 December 2008 09:32 am (UTC)MS is, I think, in his prime as an actor. He carried so much weight with this role, and really only could do it with years of experience. Terrific all around!

Date: Monday, 22 December 2008 09:38 pm (UTC)I loved it - this probably means I have no taste at all and I don't care. It was scary and had a lot of grown up actors, and not a load of interchangeable faces and I hope it comes back.

Date: Tuesday, 23 December 2008 11:02 pm (UTC)I'm so desperate to know who found out that a barrel full of badgers would be mad - how do we know they wouldn't be just all confused and lie still? *g*
Okay - plus, diving right in here with no real idea of who you are (*g*) - so what d'you reckon was theologically off about it? (Bearing in mind that I have this-is-telly as my watching-telly mantra, so might not say anything particularly interesting, but just "oh, fair enough...")
It did have grown-up actors, didn't it?! I dunno if I've been spoiled by watching too much Pros over the last few years, but half the shows I try to watch seem to be filled with fifteen year olds these days... or is that, erm, summat else? *g*
I hope it comes back too!
