I am soooo tired! A friend from bookgroup came over for dinner tonight - only my second guest (well, if you count a family of three as one - they did all come at the same time *g*) I'd had this idea that I'd get to the supermarket early, stock up the remaining ingredients, and spend most of the day leisurely cooking, so everything was all prepared when D arrived, and pottering around tidying and cleaning the house - replacing my pink Ikea rug with a new cream one (with a couple of orange/brown raggedy stripes at the end), putting this and that away, getting around to moving various bits and bobs...

But of course there was a missed parcel that I had to go and collect in Shepton, in the opposite direction to the supermarket, and then I got stuck behind a tractor for miles (I know better than to go that way, even though it's the main road!)... and the supermarket was a Saturday supermarket. Also, it didn't have rose water, which you couldn't move for falling over in supermarkets a few years ago, so I swung by the organic shop, which was shut, so I nipped to the farm shop - they had it! So by the time I was home and ready to start leisurely cooking and pottering, it was almost two o'clock! Which wouldn't have been a problem except that the rose water was for making Turkish Delight ice cream, and I had all the other ingredients... but I've not made ice cream before, so it took longer than it might have done, and then hoovering of course means moving the couch and discovering fly spots I'd not found before (how did they get there?), and so then mopping, and drying, and... and then the ice cream wasn't freezing very quickly, so it wasn't ready for whisking when it should have been, and it was supposed to have another five hours of freezing bouts after that, and... I got all the mains done, and my wee annexe is shiny and clean... but it wasn't at all leisurely or pottering!

D had second helpings, so the food must have been okay in the end. And we chatted about books and teaching and various things, and it was all good. But we had strawberry-kiwi-banana creams for dessert..! and I am so tired that I'm not sure I can stand up and get to the bedroom! When D left I did all the dishes, and put away the stuff I'd thrown into the bedroom to hide cos I didn't have time - and beat the ice cream for the second time. It's gonna be good when it's done... *g* But now it's past midnight, and I'm too tired for the lj-ing I wanted to do!

Guess who's planning a very quiet day at home tomorrow... *vbg*

Reading about all the preparations has made me very hungry for desert! *g*

What did you cook besides the Turkish Delight ice cream (which, I'm sure, will taste wonderful tomorrow)?

Too bad that the leisurely day turned into something a lot more stressful, and I can just imagine being stuck behind the tractor! And all the cleaning!
Sounds like the dinner was a success, and hopefully you can have a restful day tomorrow and visit LJ. :)

The Gerbera looks lovely! I bought a tiny one in a pot for my mom last year, and surprisingly, it's keeps adding more flowers. I thought, it would be long gone by now. Apparently, it likes the unheated kitchen very much.

Sounds like you need to have a quiet day at home... still, it's nice to have visitors, especially ones that want second helpings which is a compliment to the cook.

I get fly spots under my entertainment unit, I can't even imagine what any self-respecting fly would be doing there. :-\

I'm just doing the calculations... where I am to where you are, minus Sunday traffic but plus greedy hunger pangs, and I reckon, yep, I could just about make it in time to help you out with that terrible ice cream mountain *g*

Gosh you have been busy! I hope you've been able to put your feet up today to make up for it. Was the rose water ice-cream worth waiting for?
Nice Gerbera. :-)
