On Friday, I became a grown-up - I now have my very own internet connection, complete with router and all the bars showing on my laptop and phone, and a monthly bill... Wow. It also comes with a telephone, which is something else I've not had for about twenty years, and will finally let my mum phone me (rather than me doing my nut when she calls on the mobile, cos international mobile call! and calling her back on Skype). This entails me actually having to go out and buy a telephone, which I don't remember having to do before (remember the days when you moved house and it came with a telephone?) Anyway, I browsed and browsed, and very quickly came across something that made me swoon slightly and want it, and I've spent the last two days trying to buy one. I could have bought one in the shop I originally saw it in - but it was about 33% more expensive than anywhere else, so I hunted and hunted... Turns out that shop deserves the extra cash for actually stocking it, but it still makes me wince, so I've finally given up and ordered it online. I can collect it on Tuesday - wheee! There will be pics. *g*

Thing is, while I was checking out the telephone, I came across something else that made me swoon and go I want, and that turned out to be available in a local shop, and having had a reasonably stressful start to 2017 I decided bugger it and went out and treated myself. And this is what I bought... *g*

Okay, it didn't actually come with MS's single, but that's the only record I've got, and I had to try it out... I did think I had LC's single too, but I can't find it anywhere, so maybe I'm misremembering... or maybe it'll turn up. *g*

What actually sold me on the thing was that not only does it have a cassette player, but you can record from the turntable, cd and cassette player onto usb - finally, I can save all my old tapes that won't be released onto cd or anything! I've been thinking about getting something separate to play music on for ages, cos it's such a faff via computer and speakers that I rarely do it - it was so nice to just go and turn it on, pick out what I wanted to play (using my eyes) and then play it. Retro bliss! *g* And I can turn the dial for the volume, and move the switches to match the words to change source, and... and... and I don't have to faff with the laptop and opening files, and turning on bluetooth and matching devices and turning on the speaker and... just on - eyes - choose - play! I love technology, just... in its place, where I need it to be, not trying to do too much and falling over its own legs. *g*

I don't think I have either of the lads' musical efforts, but I never relinquished ownership of my aged stereo, or my aged vinyl. I still have cassettes - and a couple of cassette playing devices.

I bung most stuff on my laptop now, but I haven't got round to transferring my retro stuff to digital. Unlike vid & film, I never bother with downloads. I like to have a disc I can keep.

Yeay day off (even with a cold still - gargh!)

My music machine made me very happy again when I saw it this morning, so yeay! I shall try the usb recording later today - cross fingers for it! Sounds a bit odd to say hurrah it has usb recording at the same time as I'm saying hurrah I don't need to use my laptop, but tapes in particular do wear out and some of them are now irreplaceable but still loved... It's so nice just to be able to press buttons again, without needing to hook up to everything else at the same time!

I'm excited about my telephone too - I hope it works! *g*

It's so nice just to be able to press buttons instead of hooking everything else up. I turned it on to listen to the radio this morning - flicked a switch, turned a dial, and there I was, listening to the radio! *g*

I thought about buying one of those turntable/cassette player/cd player/recorder, but eventually decided not. I don't have any cassettes, and only two LPs. I've even cut down the number of CDs that I own. But, you know, I'd love to hear an LP play again. :-)

I've always just smiled at the resurge in LPs, and thought "ah, hipsters...", and it was actually the tape facility that made me think yes when I saw this (as well as the pretty), but actually it was very fun to put the record on and line up the stylus, and listen happily to it. And now I've just remembered where I saw a local shop selling old records too, so maybe... *vbg*

I've hardly been listening to music at all over the last ten years or so, except when I'm in the car, and I think part of that might be just how complicated it's gotten. I know it's not (cos MP3 etc., dead easy with earphones etc.) but it sort of is for the way I like to listen to music - out loud, and easily, and something I can see as well as hear... Proof of the people involved, somehow, not just a computer... *g*

You'll have to come around again, and we'll play an LP for you!

I've always listened to music, though not new music in the last decade or so, lol. But my iPod is always charged up and ready to go. Especially when I workout or clean house.

LPs are supposed to have a higher quality sound than any other forum, disregarding the pops and whistles after a few plays. And I'll look forward to listening to an LJ...though not until 2019! lol

That must be some phone! Looking forward to seeing it. I bought a record player years ago that can save to CD which was my intention when I bought it. And I haven't actually gotten around to transferring any records yet! I keep thinking, I must do that! You will probably be much more productive than me!

I was all set to do glorious pics of the phone, only to find last night that it's not working! Not sure if it's the phone or my phone line though, so need to work out a way of testing it... *sighs*

And hee - I too have things that I bought for specific purposes thinking great and then didn't do... there needs to be more time!
