Catching up! Pretend it's Tuesday for a minute...? *g*
Today was a driving day - after a relaxed start and Pros-y type chatting and so on, we hit the road headed north. Three hours goes surprisingly fast when you can carry on chatting about Pros and the state of lj, and and Pros on lj, and where else Pros is, and... well,
you get the idea! *g* But eventually it was time to drop my guest off elsewhere, and I carried on alone again. My satnav warned me that I'd have to pay a toll to carry on the direction I was going, but I didn't want to waste time on a work-around, so I resigned myself to it - and coughed up the 12p required for crossing a wee bridge back to the main road!
*g* Then it was all big roads and fast driving for a while, headed off to Wales.
Just after dark I arrived at this place, surrounded by woods and shone down on by a nearly full moon...

Betws-y-coed YHA, by Swallow Falls. *g* The pretty building is actually the hotel rather than the very unprepossessing YHA, but it all worked and there I was.
And this was my view when I had dinner at the hotel (Mediterranean stuffed peppers, cos sometimes you just feel the need for veggies!)
I was in a wee booth by the window, and it was all very peaceful and quiet, and it turned out I had the YHA room all to myself too, so generally, the day was a happy, I'd say!
Probably the fact that there were in fact no spooky encounters was also a happy, really... *g* I wouldn't mind one at all - provided I was with other people at the time, which I'm not usually! Did anyone manage to have a halloween-y Halloween? *g*

Date: Thursday, 2 November 2017 11:54 am (UTC)It did turn out to be quite a pretty Halloween, though I must admit that it was quite spooky driving among the trees when I wasn't sure where I was going! Very quiet too, no hi-jinks of any kind... *g*

Date: Friday, 3 November 2017 04:44 pm (UTC)Betws-y-coed - now that brings back memories. I went there on a Biology field trip with the school when I was 16. I had a whale of a time (and a particularly memorable trip to Anglesey where I spent more time watching a man exercising his dressage horse on the beach than I ever did on the plants in my quadrat...) I hope your visit is as good!

Date: Saturday, 4 November 2017 10:27 pm (UTC)I can well imagine school trips to Betws-y-Coed, too. Although I prefer imagining them to be there when I'm not there... *g*

Date: Friday, 3 November 2017 06:27 pm (UTC)12p?!? Wow. For a moment I thought you meant £12! Blame my habit of driving along Italian motorways, most of which have quite expensive tolls (like, yesterday, driving from Rome to Orvieto on the A1, roughly 100 km, toll was €7.30)...
My Hallowe'en was pretty enjoyable, actually. Didn't get involved in any trick-or-treating or fancy dressing, but went out for a delicious pumpkin-based dinner in a cool restaurant in Rome specialising in creative burgers (with organic high quality meat) and other stuff. For the occasion they offered a burger that had a pumpkin-based purée as one of the fillings and whose bun was also partly made of pumpkin flour... And the desserts were great too!
The other feature this restaurant has is they lend you an iPad for the duration of your meal, with which you can browse not only the menu, order food & drinks, customise your food, ask for the bill etc. but also browse the internet etc. and everything else you can do with a regular iPad... The restaurant chain is called "Ham Holy Burger" (!) and has several locations in Italy, plus I believe one in London at John Lewis Oxford Street...

Date: Saturday, 4 November 2017 11:04 am (UTC)Pretty sure that is the Warburton toll bridge on the route Bob took to Liverpool yesterday -apparently it has something to do with land owned by the ship canal company and the locals have been trying to get rid of it for years, unsuccessfully as you noticed.
