Thursday 15th October - Another day

It's been a funny kind of day. I know I've done useful things, but for the life of me I can barely work out what I have done...
One thing, though, was deal with a box of pictures that I found had also caught the damp in my old place. I took them out, put them in the sun and cleaned them off, and now they're drying further (I hope) by the radiator. This one couldn't be saved though - the frame (relatively cheap Ikea, luckily, though still a waste) was gone all through, and although the front of the poster looks fine, the back was all marked. I know it's just a poster, but I did rather love my Parkes Telescope whirling lights, especially because it was also a happy memory from visiting the actual Parkes Telescope (from The Dish, one of my favourite films) with
kiwisue, and I'd looked forward to having it up in my shed-office... *sighs sadly*
Apart from taking my recycling up to the end of the farm track, and getting some milk, I was home all day today though. And this is what my place looked like when I came back from that little job.

Not bad, really. *g*

Date: Friday, 16 October 2020 09:47 am (UTC)Re the spoiled poster: I'm the same, hate throwing anything out if it could be saved, especially when it has such memories. Do you have a specialist art framing shop in a nearby town? They may be able to advise if the poster is saveable? Expensive, but I use them if I have a cross stitch, for example, which I've invested time and money in making. So, it's worth the expense to get the work properly stretched, mounted and framed, to preserve and display it well.
I took my graduation certificate to be re-framed as it was *humty-hum* years since the original and I could see 'foxing' developing. They were able to treat the paper, somehow (older types are not lignin free and it reacts with air, apparently) and mount the certificate so the worst of the brown spots weren't so visible and its now sealed in the frame.
Just a thought.
