Not-birdwatching again yesterday...

I finally took my big camera out with me for a walk, hoping that I might come across some of the local wildlife again... and I did. *g*

I've startled this deer into running away a few times now... and then we stand and watch each other for a little bit. I was a bit surprised to see her alone.

When I carried on down the track a bit I realised that her friend had just hung back for a while...

...and of course she too went bounding away! They're roe deer, I think, going by their rather distinctive bottoms - not quite sure about the evolutionary value of popping a bright white target right there, but hopefully it's working out for them! Roe deer are properly native to the British Isles, they've been here thousands of years...

When I looked up there were skeins of birds in flight...

...and looking down in the hedges there were sloes, more than I've ever seen before. I'm thinking of picking them and having a go at sloe gin... *g*

It's looking pretty wintry to me.

The deer hadn't gone too far, and I spotted them again on my way back.

And here is where I live - which I really am feeling quite lucky about in these days of "lockdown". I went for a walk through the village the other night, and had to dodge a dozen women leaving a crafting class (none of whom tried to dodge me) - how is that lockdown? I'm just... staggered by the number of people who are finding ways to twist things so that they can carry on as normal. I know we all need money, but surely we all need to help keep each other alive too... and a craft class for posh white women (let's be honest) is not "formal education or formal training" as defined in the government rules...

On the bright side, there's hope ahead with the vaccines being developed, and cross-fingers enough decent people in the world that they'll outweigh the others, although it does always seem to be quite the battle.

And Christmas is coming. *g*

I did wonder about the big white bottoms. Surely something of a target. But it must have held some purpose before men arrived.

Doesn't it just irritate you no end? People just can't seem to get the point that staying home is to keep you safe, yet so many flaunt the rules. It's even worse when it's for something so frivolous as a craft class.

And how wonderful to live a distance from it all!

Working backwards said the actress... is it my imagination or has the deer got a love heart shaped marking on its backside? Or am I the product of too many slash stories? And that is one fabulous tree in the bottom picture! Is it an Oak tree? (Said the person who's lived in England more than half a century.) (I don't do nature as you might have realised.)

Infuriating, isn't it?

Oh please, rant away as much as you like :) I totally agree with you about selfish people disregarding 'guidelines' and trying to get away with it...
Beautiful photos!

It's funny how much your roe deer look like the white-tailed deer I am more accustomed to seeing. I looked up roe deer for my BB story and realized they're so small that a single hunter can carry one. So they don't have the power of bigger deer but I bet they still take your breath away as they spring up and away, and away. As if they are flying.

I can't understand either how people who aren't even MAGAminded can act as though they can just ... do stuff. Anything. As if there is no virus. As if getting sick is just a few days coughing and Bob's your uncle.

Stay safe!
