Sunday strolling

Not-birdwatching again yesterday...

I finally took my big camera out with me for a walk, hoping that I might come across some of the local wildlife again... and I did. *g*

I've startled this deer into running away a few times now... and then we stand and watch each other for a little bit. I was a bit surprised to see her alone.
When I carried on down the track a bit I realised that her friend had just hung back for a while...

...and of course she too went bounding away! They're roe deer, I think, going by their rather distinctive bottoms - not quite sure about the evolutionary value of popping a bright white target right there, but hopefully it's working out for them! Roe deer are properly native to the British Isles, they've been here thousands of years...
When I looked up there were skeins of birds in flight...

...and looking down in the hedges there were sloes, more than I've ever seen before. I'm thinking of picking them and having a go at sloe gin... *g*
It's looking pretty wintry to me.

The deer hadn't gone too far, and I spotted them again on my way back.

And here is where I live - which I really am feeling quite lucky about in these days of "lockdown". I went for a walk through the village the other night, and had to dodge a dozen women leaving a crafting class (none of whom tried to dodge me) - how is that lockdown? I'm just... staggered by the number of people who are finding ways to twist things so that they can carry on as normal. I know we all need money, but surely we all need to help keep each other alive too... and a craft class for posh white women (let's be honest) is not "formal education or formal training" as defined in the government rules...
On the bright side, there's hope ahead with the vaccines being developed, and cross-fingers enough decent people in the world that they'll outweigh the others, although it does always seem to be quite the battle.
And Christmas is coming. *g*

Date: Monday, 23 November 2020 01:21 pm (UTC)Doesn't it just irritate you no end? People just can't seem to get the point that staying home is to keep you safe, yet so many flaunt the rules. It's even worse when it's for something so frivolous as a craft class.
And how wonderful to live a distance from it all!

Date: Tuesday, 24 November 2020 01:09 pm (UTC)And women...! People! Before people arrived! *g*
I couldn't believe that Madam was getting away with running these classes. She's making a bit deal about it being all about mental health during lockdown - but in that case why can't other people do the mental-health things that they like doing? Going to the pub to meet their friends, having their grandchildren over at the weekend, going to book club or metal detecting club or whatever it might be? She's found an excuse to what she wants to do... I find it even more frustrating in this case because when she opened her space she kept claiming that it was "for the community" and "for the village", and so on. What she's written on her door says it all though - "Money can't buy happiness, but it can support local business and that's almost the same thing". For you it is! For other people happiness is not risking the lives of their grandparents or parents, or friends or family! And has she ever taken part in any volunteer community event? There've been loads, and she never has, not once - even as simple as putting things in the window... /rant. Sorry. *g*

Date: Tuesday, 24 November 2020 05:17 pm (UTC)I've seen people doing that with masks over here too - if you're not going to wear it properly in a shop, then why bother hanging it off your ear in the first place?! I get not wearing it outside - as long as people are at a decent distance I take my mask off outside (though not if they're just barging their way up the street and not bothing - no, I continue to protect them by wearing my mask... grrr!)
I think people are using the idea of the vaccines as a get-out-of-jail card to be honest. But even the vaccines they've tested are like condoms - not 100% guaranteed to work, never mind the long term effects not being known because you can't test for them... which will then be used by other people not to get vaccinated, thus putting the rest of us at risk of that 5% chance of catching it from them... Okay, I'm bitching again. Only - no I'm not, it's not complaining, it's pointing out an actual problem! So... ranting. *g* Shutting up now! *vbg*

Date: Tuesday, 24 November 2020 01:10 pm (UTC)And hmmn - I don't think that is an oak tree, but I'm awful. Unless I look specifically for some reason, I just think gorgeous tree and carry on my merry way, gazing happily at it when I see it. Next time I go past I'll check for evidence! *g*

Date: Tuesday, 24 November 2020 01:15 pm (UTC)I still can't believe those deer have survived all these hundreds of years with love-heart white bottoms bobbing up and down whenever they run! To be fair, when I was trying to work out what kind of deer it was, none of the pics seems to have such pure white distinctive rumps as these chaps! *g*

Date: Thursday, 26 November 2020 06:31 am (UTC)I can't understand either how people who aren't even MAGAminded can act as though they can just ... do stuff. Anything. As if there is no virus. As if getting sick is just a few days coughing and Bob's your uncle.
Stay safe!
