The Great ProsWatch - Private Madness Public Danger

Well there was nearly a great wailing and gnashing of teeth - three dvd machines of various flavours I have here in my room, and would any of them play my Pros dvd, that I've never had a problem with before, at 9pm tonight? Noooo... So I was a little late to the party, but now I'm sitting here watching Private Madness Public Danger and it's making me giggle! And thirty years ago, people all over this country were sitting down to see it for the first ever time... imagine! *g* And MS and LC were about to find out just how popular their characters were.
Ah, here's the music hall act lads, having been so gorgeous and competent with their target shooting, not to mention so... oh, just together, the way they look at each other!

Susan out of her head in hospital, asking for George - Bodie jumping to the rescue - "I'm George, I'm right here..." only to be told George was her cat... Heeeee!

And Nesbitt ordering a sandwich in the pub - "Cheese or beef" is his choice, with either pickle or mustard - none of this types of bread, or array of salads and dressings to accompany it - cheese or beef! Now there's a decision I could handle...
Oh, there's our Doyle! "Hello Betty!" he says, all chirpy - and he's driving the blue Triumph, yeay!

There's Betty - she's somehow competent and just a bit ditzy-seeming at the same time, shouting after Cowley as he goes out the door.

Oh, and "Time gentlemen, please!" Those were the days... Vaughton's Ale on the sign - hmmn, anyone know that one?
It's been raining...
Doyle is wearing a black t-shirt under his plaid shirt... there's just something about that... a tendency to cling, it has... Bodie's all smart in a pink shirt and sports coat.
And Benny - I like Benny in his scruffies... hee "Why the cuffs?"/"You look lovely in silver..."

And Doyle all competent... Hee, he must have stopped off to change his shirt in between arresting Sutton and telling Cowley he was ready for interrogation... and Bodie too, in the hospital talking to Susan - he's gone all casual. The next day then... Doyle's wearing red socks with black trousers and a pale blue shirt - more heee!

Ah, Cowley doing his very bad thing, threatening to inject Sutton with heroin, and Doyle looking a bit shocked... Bodie bullying Susan in the hospital...

Ooh, background about Cowley - he's fought in several wars, and the worst was against a very barbaric race... But the Brits are adaptable and copied the barbarism... Drove the prisoners through the minefield before them when they wouldn't say where the anti-personnel mines were.
God, Doyle is just breathing in the background - just standing there, slightly out of focus, and his breathing draws my eye way more than Cowley's evil in the foreground!

Doyle didn't believe Cowley'd go through with it - another look he gives him - Cowley comes very close...

I wonder what that music is that Nesbitt's playing on the radio - I'm sure Doyle and Ann Holly were dancing to that in Involvement!
Oooh - Bodie's hand firmly on Doyle's hip before he runs after Nesbitt! And was it necessary? I don't think so - purely a comfort thing... *g*

Doyle knows the registration.. The lads have fixed the car which had the tyres shot out - that was alot of spares they carried... Or maybe they have a special bullet-shot-tyres repair kit!
That agent looks like Jack Dee...
Hee - radio playing the same music again! Has longevity, that tune, clearly... no idea what that one is either!
Oh yeay, and Bodie's words take way precendence over Cowley's, to Doyle! Ooh, look at Doyle over that plank across the stream... and yeay, Bodie's got him! Doyle winged him mind... Here's Jack Dee, also looking very competent, to be fair. Doyle being smug at Cowley... and wanting Bodie to double check him... "Doyle, you coming?" - bliss... so together... *g*

Hee - water's cold - Bodie's feeling it too, he gasps! Bless... Doyle straight in there to help his Bodie... Hee - the expression on Bodie's face... and Doyle's, when Bodie disarms the explosive...

Oh, and Bodie's hands on Doyle again, lingeringly I'd say, as they come out of the boat... Just... and again, they're so together at the end of this... *happy sigh*

And roll credits... and thirty years ago no one could do what I'm doing now - go straight on to watch Female Factor, while effectively chatting to mates all around the world. Yeay for technology, yeay for thirty years on, and yeay for our lads!
And yeay for you too, my Pros-y flist. It's been a fab couple of years... *g* Thank you!

Date: Sunday, 30 December 2007 10:49 pm (UTC)Fave bits for me is the target practise, Doyle pushing Bodie against the ambulance as he rushes off after Sutton, Doyle and Benny in the bar, Cowley being menacing and Doyle in the background (yup, it's a goodie), the shoot out with Nesbitt, Nesbitt as a baddie (he does single minded madness pretty well), and the whole ending - esp them all wet in the water and the lingering touch and comedy at the end. Mmm!
Although I do wonder with Sutton - when the actor was hired, did he say to the script writers ''ere, look what I can do wiv me hair' and they think oh bingo! Or did they hire him as he was balding and they thought we can fit a right good comb over on you son, or did they have something else in mind and then his wig fell off at an opportune moment?
And why do I think such things?!!

Date: Sunday, 30 December 2007 11:38 pm (UTC)And you think wonderful things! Heee Sutton's hair! Excellent baddie Nesbitt, and ohhh, Doyle pushing Bodie into the ambulance! *vbg*

Date: Sunday, 30 December 2007 10:56 pm (UTC)It's a great one, isn't it? I absolutely concur with your assessment of how b&D are, together, in this one - it's jelled by this point, hasn't it? they are reading each other's minds already, already joined at the hip, have that static electricity going between them.
I also commented on that music - I think I read about it over at the Pros lounge? but it's one of Laurie's compositions, and they use it quite a few times in the show - in H/H, for example, on the radio when Doyle's car's brakes go out? remember? :) It's fabulous!
This was the first time I really notice how Bodie's mouth was shaking with the cold in the reservoir - I didn't see his teeth chatter, but his lips were quivering, really! BURRR! Doyle, get over there, warm each other up!
That was so much fun. Glad that we all did this together... :)

Hee, it gets used in a lot of the eps, doesn't it, and I really like it, though I think I'm in the minority! *g*

Date: Sunday, 30 December 2007 11:42 pm (UTC)D'you know, I think I quite like the music myself, but mostly cos I'll always picture Doyle dancing to it in Beautiful Picture, or driving to it in Hunter/Hunted... hey, maybe it's Doyle's music - does Bodie ever have that music? Hmmn!

Date: Sunday, 30 December 2007 11:53 pm (UTC)Am made squeeful anew with so many things ... Doyle's steel-blue shirt in the Sutton interrogation scene ... that little bit of tongue that Bodie pokes out after the last Heineken can goes flying (yup, it's right here ... up a bit ... left a bit ... you got it) ... Doyle at the wheel of the TR7 which nearly smashes into the ambulance coming round the corner ... badass Doyle leaning on the Wurlitzer .... the array of *five* different phones on George Cowley's desk ...
Nesbitt is one of my favourite Pros baddies, cos he just looks so mild and unclish, and yet he's off his bloomin trolley!!
"Harvey, I'll kill you! I hate you and I'm going to kill you!" hahahahaha *g*
And the things we've learned ... like how a good cry helps in a fatal overdose situation.
Am weak with love. What a great evening. Very happy! 'Night all!
