Oh how cool is this - one of those bikes belonged to my office-mate!
Drug Peddler Caught on Bike
I'm sitting across from someone described by the police: "This was an incredibly public-spirited thing for these cyclists to do. It is an excellent example of how the police and the public can work together to take crime off the streets."
Her bike was requisitioned by the police! It's just like the telly - only on the telly they tend to requisition speedy cars... *g* Her story is fab too - apparently she'd noticed the police van and thought nothing of it, then saw the guy cycle past her - she'd slowed down cos of the van, and next thing she knew a policeman had pelted up beside her on foot, come to a stop and was eyeing her and her bike and asked if he could borrow it - promising to bring it back! A few seconds later another policeman on a bike cycled past her in hot pursuit! She kept walking along the cycle path, and paused where it divided into road, wondering whether she should wait there when she noticed another guy come up behind her, complete with cycle helmet, all the gear - and no bike. *g* So they carried on together down the path, and came across the two police with the accused firmly held between them, and the bikes lying on the grass to either side of the path. They thanked office-mate and cyclist-guy, and carried on with the arrest...
I'm just... heeee! How fab a story is that?! Go the police on bikes! *g*

Date: Friday, 29 May 2009 01:25 pm (UTC)They didn't wear those Bobby helmet thingies, but it reminds me of an episode, (can't remember the name, as usual) where the young country policeman had to get on his bike to check something for CI5 - a man dead in a boatshed.
Thanks for sharing this. :)

Isn't that wonderful? I love the coppers asking nicely to borrow the bike, and then saying thank you in the middle of the arrest. Bless.
Thanks for the huge smile *g*
