Sentinels by Castalia

Just because I haven't posted a rec, or even about Prosfic for ages (or at least that's how it feels, not counting over at Reading Room) - I was sorting out my google docs and found a list of older lads fic I'd collated for Palelyoitering.com (gosh, which really needs updating now that marking's over, doesn't it...) Anyway - I flicked down and clicked on Sentinels, and loved it all over again...

It's rather a comfort story, somehow without the hurt being too close, but it's more than that too, because it's an understanding story, one of my favourites where it's done so simply, without belabouring, and I love them both all the better for it...

I just love this piece of writing - there's something about the phrase 'the need to map me' which always really gets to me:

Then come the kisses, the need to map me. As if Bodie, in these dreams of his, forgets my shape, my taste.

and the image of vulnerable Bodie holding on for comfort, nuzzling Ray (who doesn't really mind....), and you can almost substitute 'nuzzling' for 'suckling', like a suckling baby. So many basic, primal instincts here, fighting for attention.

Yes! It really is a beautiful piece of writing, isn't it - I find most of Castalia's work like that, just wonderful... I love the idea of Doyle just lying there, knowing Bodie so well and as you say, letting him, because he doesn't mind really, cos it's Bodie, and Bodie can have whatever he wants... And Bodie afterwards, for all it feels odd to him, still being able to go about ordinary life, because he knows that Doyle gets it, and... Castalia's so good with all those lovely layers!

I saw this post before your previous one and I wanted to say how fantastic it must have been to see Pros up on the big screen! I just can't imagine what it would be like but I feel so proud of B/D/Pros after all these years still managing to pull people in! (And I keep forgetting that MS is on tonight but I've just reminded managed to remind myself.)

Ooh, I'd completely forgotten about The One Show tonight - thank you! I'd've let it slide by and then cursed and kicked things... though I'm wondering a bit about this apparent "spoof" they're going to be doing... eep!

And yes! I have to say, the theatre wasn't packed or anything, but I love that it was on, and it's been on there twice, and people still seem to be watching it on ITV-thingie (which I still don't get...) It is a show to be proud of! *g*

I haven't read this before. Very comforting, Doyle soothing Bodie's nightmares, and Bodie watching over Doyle, making sure he takes his meds. Thanks for the rec! :-)
