Is it really only Wednesday? Eep... Better have a random picture of amazingness.

It's NASA's astronomy picture of today, though I fiddled with it a little - it's slightly cropped and autobrightened, cos it looked very dark on my screen and I wanted light... It also features the Twelve Apostles etc from the Great Ocean Road that was a holiday-ish part my childhood and my recent return to Aus. Mostly I love it for the colour though - I don't know about you, but I'm needing some colour right now! The second week of the year is always a bit blargh I suppose - not quite the optimistic first week, cos you've settled back far enough into life to know that nothing's changed or magic about the new year after all... Yet. *g*

I've still to work out what I'm going to do with 2012, which is odd... or at least my current plans are quiet practical ones, which need expanding into gorgeousness and joy as soon as possible... Has anyone got plans and expectations for 2012? Please inspire me!

Or maybe I should just pull myself together and get on with something! *g*

This week really is rather blah, isn't it?

I love the pic :)

The pic's gorgeous, isn't it... Hopefully in the third week of the new year will start to look up a bit again, or maybe the fourth when we realise that we really are off again... *g*

I have decided I am going to London to see a play, just for kicks and the excitement of Going To London, and I have several in mind already. Come and see them with me. One of them even has Pros connections. (I want to see Noises Off, and isn't that what one of them sees in a Helen Raven story? Freezing, perhaps?)

Noises Off was in Freezing - apparently the show debuted in 1982, which is interesting. I had no idea it was still running, let alone is considered one of the greatest British comedies ever written... *g* My trouble is I'm a bit restricted for times and so on - when were you thinking of going?

(Also, one of the things I do have scheduled to look forward to is a play I'm off to see in London, so it wasn't quite true to say I have nothing planned at all... I guess I'm just fancying a proper get-away/do something completely different right now! I've been in this job for soooo long, by my standards!

It's not been on continuously - this is a new run, and finishes in a couple of months. So, "within the next couple of months".

Something completely different? That waterfall still awaits you... come down and we can hunt waterfalls. (Bet you've seen bigger in NZ, but still.)

Ah, I did check out the dates online - potentially tricky, though I bet if I take things into account they won't be involved after all... Waterfalls sound promising, too! *g*

I'm going back home in May. My friend, Anne (she who carts me around all over England,) is meeting me there and I'm going to show her Arizona. We're visiting the Canyon, of course, but also Payson, the Mogollon Rim, Flagstaff, Williams and Camp Verde. Oh, and seeing what there is to see in Phoenix (it's big, but not exactly picturesque. *g*) Afterwards, she's flying back with me and we're driving to Lansing for MediaWest. :-) Not sure yet about Shore Leave, which is a drag since it'll be the first time I've missed it in twelve years.

That sounds like an ace trip - and with bonus cons at the end! (Hmmn, the good kind of con I mean... I was going to say "such as the pros kind of con", but it's all just going to get even more tangled if I do that, isn't it... *g* You know what I mean!)

Yeay for plans - they are rather inspirational, actually! *g*

I haven't figured out the picture yet!

Are we looking at a portion of the earth through a fish-eye lens? Where's Australia? Is that tree canopy or volcanic activity?

Ooh, I've just clicked on the link ... didn't help much. *g*

Cracking picture though.

Hee - it's a gorgeous pic, innit! I think a spherical panorama takes an ordinary 360 degree picture and turns it into a sphere - creating a "little planet"... So the whole thing is from one photo around the Twelve Apostles, but all sort of warped - that is tree canopy and bare earth, but it looks extra bubbly because of the effect... I guess the focus is put on the islands, which look normal, but then everything else is pulled out of skew to wrap it around and create a planet... ooh, as if it'd been printed on balloon-shaped rubber with the islands as the top bit, and then made into an actual balloon and blown up! *g*

Bloody 'ell, it took it out me, working that out, know... *g*

Cracking picture, innit... *vbg*

Plans for the year - well, buy a decent camera and do a photo weekend in London, for one! There are a couple of good trips away planned, starting with Amsterdam next week - yay! I love Amsterdam! Although organising travel and visas for some of the others... blah.

On a slightly more serious note, I will need to buy a house *groan* and move again *extra loud groan*. Not looking forward to that much. However, just think what a lot I've learned from this last few weeks!

Are there any Pros-type cons, gatherings, gab-fests etc on the cards? That might be fun.

Date: Wednesday, 11 January 2012 02:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com
Wow, you have plans! And just think how fab buying a house that's going to be perfect this time will be... and it'll be yours... Granted the moving bit sucks... I really need to focus on that sort of thing too, the squishiness of me is getting a bit silly... *sighs*

Yeay decent cameras and photo weekends in London - yes!

And I'm definitely expecting Pros-y gatherings too - the Writing Holiday and the Scarsdale again, for two, and then I'd quite like to do something over the weekend of 19th May (I should start exploring that, shouldn't I... *g*), and... and... there was talk of going to Maldon again, but that'd have to be... oh, before April I think while the barge is still static, and... Yeah, Pros-y things! *g*

Practical plans are probably for the best. *g*

I have a way-out one - to requalify as a solicitor. It'll take years, rather than months, but I really feel like starting the process now. Impatient, even.

More gorgeousness and joy is needed, definitely, and Pros-y get-togethers. Impatient for that, too.

I still harbour the fantasy (more than plan) of organising a locations tour outside London in the Maidenhead-Marlow area. I'm particularly tempted by a riverboat trip from Marlow to Windsor.

It's true, practical plans are practical for a reason, but... they're so dull!

I like your way-out plan - what a brilliant plan, and even better if you're actually impatient to begin it (that's the best kind of plan, I reckon... *g*)

And of course Pros-y ones... Perhaps there should be tentative questions and arrangements (though you won't like the date that - you already know - I'm especially hankering after, so we might need to make two sets of plans... *sighs at the probable impossibility*...)

I'm particularly tempted by a riverboat trip from Marlow to Windsor.
Oh wow, me too! When shall we do that one?!

Why is the Maidenhead-Marlow locations tour a fantasy rather than a plan? What's un-doable about it?

What's un-doable about it? Just my rubbish-ness at finding the time to organise it.

Also this summer isn't a good time to be going near London, would need to be well before or after after the Olympics.

the Olympics

Bloody hell, I had totally forgotten (how?) about that point.

Which is half the joy, so presumably you wouldn't want someone to offer to help with that...? *g*

Good point about the summer though - hmmn, I wonder if that means that other UK locations will be emptier/more reasonable? Or just the opposite, perhaps, with the Londonians looking to escape... You know, I was half-wondering if anyone would be up for a Pros-y type camping holiday, maybe at... oh, not Downsea Farm, cos that's from my fic, but at the campsite in Dorset that [livejournal.com profile] cornishcat and I were at for a weekend - [livejournal.com profile] londonronnie knows of the place too... oh, what's it really called? It'd be just big enough for just us, and there's a shower and cafe but otherwise just gorgeous views and the farm animals... and farmers, somewhere, I suppose... *g*

I just saw your comment above about 19 May. erm, I don't think I'm doing what I was going to be doing on that weekend (the Watford-based locations tour), so there isn't a clash.

In fact that's a big part of my motivation to have a Home Counties locations tour of our own - on different dates.

Count me in for Maldon, if it's not too late in the year to book.

Oh - yes! *vbg* Yes and yeay! That's made me so happy, though I know it shouldn't in some ways. But yeay! *runs to suggest the 19th of May weekend to a bunch of people... *g*

I'll have to look up Maldon though - I'm not sure that's available in May, cos they take the barges out to sail again when it warms up again (though I'd love to do that one day too - a wee bit pricier, though...)

Oh, Maldon sooner would be fab... I could try organising, but I might have to drop out at the last minute for a thing, but... I would like to do Maldon again... *thinks and thinks*

I've been debating with myself whether to clog up my LJ with quilt stuff. I'd have to start ANOTHER blog though, because I still can't upload pics to LJ anymore. *headdesk*

Well I wish I could tell you I was going to take a sabbatical and go to Bolivia or something, but sadly that's not a this year plan :)

I think I just want to survive it really. Get fit somehow without having to do any exercise. And erm finish my book that I haven't written any of for so long I can hardly remember what it's all about.

Oh dear - not very inspirational really. I *am* optimistic though, which is a good start :D

Oh, Bolivia... *sighs in a it's-far-away-and-adventurous kind of way*

Hey, maybe we can get fit without doing any exercise together? *g* And books...

Yeay for optimism though - I seem to be still working up to that... *g*

I'm still vaguley in New Year mode as we just got back last night from the annual visit to London relatives. I suppose I ought to look round and realise January is well under way.

It's a fab pic, isn't it - I'd never heard of "little planets" before, but they look fun!

And yeay for still being New Years-y - as you've probably noticed, I seem to have fallen behind already!
