Sooo Plumber has fixed the shower using the old ball bearing and a bit of tape. Or summat. And Landlady has cleaned all the nasty hardwater that blocked the showerhead. We can haz shower.

Or... we might have been able to if only we had any water at all now...

...cos the other problem Plumber found yesterday was that the main stopcock to the house was jammed on, so if there'd been a water emergency, we would clearly all have drowned. So he went out to the bit of the pipe that leads into our house and has it's own stopcock, which is under those wee manhole cover-y things that each house has, on the pavement outside. Only when he lifted the lid (me looking on, going "well fancy that"), he peered down and said "Um, there seems to be a bit of a leak here..." and when I peered down there was a bit of a leak, the whole thing was underwater... So he called the WaterBoard, and the WaterBoard came (very quickly) and... apparently made it even worse. So the WaterBoard went away, and we were Not Allowed To Use Water (but they left us some massive bottles of spring water, which was impressive) and then the WaterBoard came back and fixed it, and now there's a very large damp patch across the pavement outside our place (and oddly enough, down our wee drive), and a Plumber under the sink. At 9.41pm. And I have a gargh headache and really want to go to bed, but not without doing things that Require Water! Gargh!

So to cheer myself up, I'm posting some pics I took of Water about three weeks ago, when we had all that rain...

Also, there was good sky that day...

Also (again, part 2), I may have to go and buy myself some more Goons - my favourites are The Treasure of Loch Lomond, The International Christmas Pudding, and possibly Robin Hood... Oh, and by finding that link for you, I've also found some free downloads - wheeeee! But I still will have to stock up. Anyone want to recommend favourite eps for me to track down? Ooh, I could also have made my subject header - He's fallen in the wa-ter... *vbg*

See - I'm staying cheerful. Also - Plumber Has Left! We have water! Where it's supposed to be! And I'm taking me 'eadache off to bed - maybe I'll dream Spike Milligan-type dreams... *g*

Boy - never rains but it pours around you, right?

And Pony! *g*

Hee - there were actually two ponies, one each side of the path, but I was too sleepy to do any more photos... *g*

Also, I'm blaming you - once our water was fixed, it was perfectly dry out our way, but I've woken up to rain and rain and rain! Again!

Also - ooooooh! I've just discovered that if I use the keyboard shortcut for, say italics, when I'm typing into the comment box, Lj converts it to the code for me, so that I don't have to type it out myself! How brilliant is that?! *g*

We had a similar problem like that about 2 years ago; Our leak flooded the street however and the waterboard and council couldn't decide whose job is was to fix the leak. I'm glad you've not had the same trouble with your water problem. :) Hopefully you can get some sleep and get rid of that headache now. :D

I love those photos, such a beautiful sky and a PONY! Awww! :) I love ponies.

My headache does seem to have gone, I woke up before my alarm again, and the only thing making me go huh right now is that after all the water-works last night, it's now raining!

Water seems to be haunting you right now. lol :)

I hate waking up before my alarms goes off; It's like my subconscious is playing a nasty joke on me. I'm glad the headache has gone. :D

Hard water? What, the showerhead scaled up? That can't have helped. And yet... with all the rest, it's so, so... minor! In the dramatic progression stakes, you are well ahead.

Did the plumber have - or the water board send out a guy with - the high tech leak detection equipment of a long hollow pole and a plate on the end of it? They're amazing - all that technology, and it turns out that to detect a leak you listen for turbulence. By sticking this long pole upright so that it touches the ground at points above the pipe and touching your ear to the plate thing.

The scaling-up was basically what caused everything else though - if the showerhead was properly cleaned each time, then the pipe wouldn't have burst and the shower wouldn't have been broken! One thing I have to thank my mum for is being able to recognise when something's properly clean or not - if you can see gunge on the outside, or if the water isn't coming through all the holes, then it ain't clean! That's the trouble with being a lodger though, when your landlady regularly cleans things badly, you can't go around after her re-cleaning them, so you have to put up with the results... It's that old saying (which kids never seem to hear any more, judging by the younguns I've tutored over the past few years) - a stitch in time really does save nine!

I've no idea how they fixed the leak outside, I was sitting in front of QI with a headache by the time they finally arrived, but it is amazing how low-tech alot of high-tech stuff really is, isn't it!

Oh gods, no!

I was thinking of sayings, too: "for want of a nail, the shoe was lost". Hmm, how about "for want of a scale, the shower was lost".

Are you on a water meter? If so, I presume that leak was on the water company's side of the meter, and not yours!

I'm so glad you have your water back - that's very comforting. Funny how we just assume the basics are going to be there, isn't it? And when something is taken away, for whatever reason, it's not fair and it's inconveniencing and just plain wrong!

Fantastic big sky on the last pic, as well.

Oh, showers... *sighs happily*

I lived without running water for 6 months or so in Alaska, once (never mind camping and travelling and all that) - I do appreciate a good shower! Actually I usually appreciate even a bad shower... *g*

The sky was rather good out there in the fens that day - and when there's so much water on the ground, you really notice it, too! *g*

So glad you have indoor water again!!

Well, that was the fenland, which is supposed to be soggy - but not quite that soggy! *g*

And yeay indeed for indoor water! I seem to recall you spent a share of time without it in all the right places too - it's nice when it's where it should be, isn't it! *g*

It is indeed - and yes, we had some waterless times in Portugal though to be fair we did sleep elsewhere while that was going on. Still, during the day it was quite a problem! We do tend to take running water for granted...
