A Saturday in August...

Hello lj - it's been aaaages (again). Just when I thought marking was all over, extra was sprung on me (as I moaned previously) and when that was finally over I was off into surgery to have my knee peered at from the inside (and all it's metal taken out - well, except for one screw that apparently goes through a tendon which they didn't want to muck about with). And of course I should have taken more time off work for it, but you don't really want to do that when you're self-employed, so I've been trying to do that too... and I've been sleepier for far longer than I expected. Have only just stopped needing to nap several times a day, really...
They also said I'd be able to drive "maybe not the day after, but the day after that..." - hah! to that consultant, cos no... So sleepy and achey and trapped - and I still can't do more than hobble up and downstairs one step at a time... I can walk without crutches though, and - luckily - I can drive too. Well, I could the other day when I tried it - it's my clutch leg, and I can actually do that movement okay, I just can't lift it to get into the car, so I'm anticipating many worried looks. Because...
...today I'm going to see aeroplanes! *vbg* And a scramble to Spitfires, and all sorts of WWII things, at A Musical Salute the Few.

It's the first thing I've had in my diary for aaaaages, and guess what?
It's scheduled to rain. Pretty much as soon as the gates open, through most of the event. The picnic event. The outdoors, picnic event, at which there are supposed to be planes flying. The kind that don't like to fly in the wet.
Waaaaah!
Stoopid rain. Stoopid leg. Stoopid... Well. On the other hand. Planes! And of course, the story's gonna be narrated by someone we quite like, as an actor... *g* And there will be good company, who I'm picking up on the way, and treat-type snacks from M&S, and cool 1940s music, and... It's gonna be good. It is, rain be damned! (Well, as long as I can keep the dressing that goes over my staples (okay "clips", but they look like staples) dry). *g*
Right - off! I hope you've got cool things to do today, and that everything has been going well and all that? *waves* *g*

Date: Saturday, 17 August 2013 04:29 pm (UTC)Wishing you and everyone there an excellent time, no matter what!
Too bad they didn't schedule it, while Mr.Siskiou and I were in England.
Have you noticed that the weather is always nice, when I'm there? ;)
And your knee is already done! What kind of recovery time are you looking at?
I hope, it's quick, and the problems you had with it will be taken care of, now.

Date: Sunday, 18 August 2013 09:16 am (UTC)And wouldn't you know it, I woke up to blue skies today. Argh!
My knee is done! The original consultant led me to believe a couple of days recovery time, though I didn't actually believe him then either... I'm hoping it won't be too much longer. It's 10 days later, and I can walk on it in general, though it's a bit tentative about getting going sometimes, and I can bend it to 90 degrees. Can't quite manage to get it up a stair though - gargh... I shall try and be a bit more intensive about doing my exercises perhaps, hope that something suddenly kicks in... I hope everything'll get better too - I'm a bit worried it might be worse, but surely that's just cos it's still healing... eep!
You must be well and truly back home now (I'm still looking forward to posts and pictures, by the way... *g*) Hope everything's blue-skyed for you over there! (Hey - maybe the Weather decides that you get enough rain whilst you're at home, so grants you good holiday weather to make up for it!)

Date: Saturday, 17 August 2013 05:56 pm (UTC)Knee doesn't sound so great, though. Why on earth do doctors tell you that recovery will be so quick, when it never is?

Date: Sunday, 18 August 2013 09:19 am (UTC)I honestly had so many different versions of how long it would take my knee to recover that I had no idea what to believe. I didn't really think it would be as quick as the original consultant suggested (though I was hopeful) but it would have been nice if it was properly better now, 10 days later... Actually I think it felt better this morning for getting more exercise yesterday, so I must try to do more exercises when I can. That's the trouble with a desk job, though...
Love your icon, btw!

Date: Sunday, 18 August 2013 10:58 am (UTC)I hope you had a good day regardless of the rain, it really sounded like a great event. Of course Martin Shaw being there wouldn't have hurt at all :-)

Date: Monday, 26 August 2013 11:20 am (UTC)I'm so in the mood for that icon - though I shan't pinch it from you, just admire it when I see it! I'm guessing it's a quote from Firefly, cos otherwise you're just being really random... *g* I've tried Firefly/Serendipity a couple of times, but not managed to get into them yet, to be honest. My head just didn't quite go the space = wild west way that seemed to jump at me. But I know everyone else loves it, and I love Whedon in general, so I'm convinced that one day I'll sit down with it and it'll click properly... In fact maybe I should give it another go now-ish, since I seem to be in an SF mood right now... I've just got to remember whether I had the dvd myself, and it's in my storage somewhere, or whether I borrowed it, or... I know I've got Serenity, but that's in Alaska, so that's no good... *g*
