Day Twenty Four - Home again home again...

Well, today I was quite happy to be home (always nice after you've been away for a bit), and quite happy to Get Things Done (even though not enough of them, and not fast enough), and very happy that it didn't actually rain until the evening, even though the forecast said it would, but the thing I was happiest about, was starting to read this...
I know, I need to stop going on about it - and actually I need to post about the books I've read before this, but there's barely been time to blink at lj, what with work and work and arranging more work. Whose bright idea was this self-employed thing, anyway?
But... Fairs' Point, and Rathe and Eslingen - even in the face of UKIP (and more particularly what the UKIP victories suggest about people - cos let's face it, it was people what voted. I'd better renew my passport and get my new certificate of abode sorted before it's too late, eh - or else start thinking more seriously about New Zealand... stoopid people. Where's an Adjunct Point and an ex-mercenary of Coindarel's Guard when you need them?) Oh, but Fairs' Point! I couldn't even wait to re-read the other books, which I'd really, really meant to... *sighs happily*

Date: Tuesday, 27 May 2014 10:30 am (UTC)And yes, that UKIP result is some seriously depressing shit. My only hope is that it's a mid-term protest vote on the part of disaffected Tories for the most part - but the sad truth is that there are far, far too many people falling for this thinly disguised "respectable" face of racism, and who either like or don't care about the brutal economic policies (decimate the NHS? check. Flat tax rate crushing the poorest while the richest don't even notice it? check ... ugh).
I'd rather read some lush tales, too!

Date: Wednesday, 28 May 2014 02:27 pm (UTC)I wish I could think it was a protest vote, but I keep remembering the faces on the audience of X-Factor (or whatever it was) when Susan Boyle came out to sing. That's people for you - they think that's okay... Too many people out there who don't seem to have ever known what it was to think about other people... *sighs* As you say - ugh.
Erk - quick, good-things, good-things! We need good things... or else action, obviously...

A lot of Europe is going righter than right wing in the face of recession, and Australia, according to friends who live there, is just as bad. New Zealand might be the only possibility!!

Date: Wednesday, 28 May 2014 02:30 pm (UTC)Ha - can't think of anywhere other than NZ as a new abode. Australia is at least as bad, the US never an option... suppose I've not looked too hard at Canada recently, and they do have an arctic I guess... *g* But I shall cross-fingers that they just renew my certificate of abode as they have every other time so far...

Date: Tuesday, 27 May 2014 05:39 pm (UTC)Fair's Point was fab! I gobbled it down in one greedy bite! But I did have time to re-read the others first. I hope you enjoy it too :)
And UKIP, sigh. I don't normally post anything about my politics or comment on anyone else's, but this situation is depressing me.
