Apparently every second day I can manage two posts... *g* We had a relaxed start to Friday, after the epic Black Forest drive, but by Friday afternoon we were off again. If you take out one of the ss from the name, and you happen to have read the Astreiant books, you might know why I just had to visit Esslingen... *g*

Today's road went through buildings, and past distant vistas...

And look who we found - another balancer!

A river runs through the town, and they use water wheels to actually create power from it. I loved the chap who had to turn the wheel... *g*

Then we found alleys and backways...

The Alt Rathaus...

...which had an astronomical clock...

...and we were there when it chimed! Look - clock quiet - clock crowing! (The little guys also turned around, but you can't really see that).

More views (and up to the town walls)

Can we imagine a young Philip Eslingen running around here...? *g*

Twin church towers...

Dragon!

I reckon this could almost be the backyard of a certain hostelry where a certain Eslingen used to help with the horses... *g*

One of my first posts about Astreiant (scroll down a bit), which rather says it all... *g* Also - *points to icon* Also, the author once said she liked my (Pros) icon very much. *vbg* I loooove those books, and can't recommend them highly enough!

They don't have dragons in them, but - yeay dragons! *g*

*vbg* Get thee to [livejournal.com profile] mescott (the author's blog, though she writes other books and series too) and [livejournal.com profile] astreiant for the occasional fanfic (anything by [livejournal.com profile] kindkit and [livejournal.com profile] jessebee especially is fab...) And obviously get thee to the bookshop of your flavour, and start with Point of Hopes... *vbg*

What an absolutely gorgeous town! It seems to have everything. Of course my favorite is the house guardian.

Esslingen is indeed a lovely town (and with bonus Astreiant-connections, too *g*). I should have guessed you'd like that pic, too! *g*

You weren't joking about a river running through the town, were you? Literally through the town! It's seeing things like this, and houses all huddled together, that have always made me think that European countries are pressed for space, but then I see all the wide open spaces in your photos and I just have to wonder why the houses are built on top of each other. They do make for glorious photos though.
And yes, can definitely see why Astreiant comes to mind in this setting. Were you looking around each corner and peering into every open doorway, just in case? *g*
