366 Photos - 326 - A Bit Damp...

I had to go to Yeovil for an appointment today, and it was raining, but I took a couple of sort of colourful pics, and thought this was going to be about as exciting as it got, considering the grey skies and vast quantities of rain coming down...

I did a few chores - including finally getting my hands on the Vodafone Sure Signal box I'd been promised weeks ago. Got it home, opened the box, and... sure enough, the instructions said plug into your broadband router. Which would be fine, if I hadn't repeatedly asked the guy on the phone who offered it to me in exchange for continuing my contract Are you sure it only plugs into an electricity socket - nowhere else? No, he said, just the socket, simple as that. No, it's not connected to your internet... *headdesk* Of course it bloody is. That's how they all work. That's why I wasn't convinced when he first offered it to me. Cos when I'd asked about it in the shops aaages before, they'd said it was something you plugged into your router. Which would normally be fine, but it's not my router! Gaah! Bloody Vodafone... If I had my own router etc. it wouldn't be a problem to start with, cos I'd also have my own landline... *headdesk*
And then... I looked out my window, and the sky seemed to have cleared a bit behind the stables, where the sun sets, and there was a pink-ish glow, so I thought I'd see if I could take something a bit more interesting... and wow. We can haz a lake!

Then I heard a peculiar lot of splashing from the main road - and in the few hours since I'd got home, the drains had flooded over and cars were swimming through it!

I'd actually done my share of car-swimming along the link-lane I use to get to the A37. It's at the bottom of a hill, and the water often floods down from the fields onto the road in winter - but I'd never seen it covered as much as it was this morning in so many places. And it's only been raining a day! I came home the other way to avoid what I presumed would only have gotten worse - and a few hours later, the main road is getting worse too. Luckily I have nowhere I need to be tomorrow!
That front field isn't usually under water either - its where the sheep live!

I hope no one gets too damp, and that everyone drives safely - but it does make for more exciting photos than I was expecting to post... *g*

Date: Tuesday, 22 November 2016 03:33 am (UTC)That's always such a good feeling when the outlook is foul - along with "I have enough food to make dinner tomorrow."
That's a gorgeous carpet of leaves photo!

Date: Tuesday, 22 November 2016 08:39 am (UTC)And oh yes, it's a lovely feeling, isn't it! Although I found myself thinking that I should get to the post office today, since I didn't yesterday... hmmn!

Date: Tuesday, 22 November 2016 04:49 am (UTC)I don't believe I've ever officially worked Yeovil...
They say there's a sweet spot where the bow wave clears the engine and you can pelt straight through - I err on the side of caution and financial prudence and test my breaks immediately after clearing water.
CI5 doesn't pick up my garage tab :0)

Date: Tuesday, 22 November 2016 08:41 am (UTC)Definitely better to be cautious on weather-y roads, and keep an eye on wet brakes! I suspect some of the sirens I heard yesterday may have been people who decided they didn't need to...

Date: Tuesday, 22 November 2016 12:41 pm (UTC)And so much water! I do hope the rain has let up some. I'd hate for the sheep to have to stand in standing water, though I would think that someone would move them if that was the case.

Date: Tuesday, 22 November 2016 11:07 pm (UTC)I must admit I've not been out today - cos it carried on raining...! It was more drizzley than the proper rain we had yesterday though, so hopefully won't have added too much more... And Landlord looks after his sheep very well - in fact he wandered down to see them and make sure they were okay when I was taking photos yesterday, so I'm sure he'll have moved them if it looked worrying for them. There's only about ten of them, so they should have fit pretty well in the unflooded bits of the field!

Date: Tuesday, 22 November 2016 06:56 pm (UTC)The sunset does look lovely over the lake, mind. Just hope the sheep aren't somewhere at the bottom of it. Or the lad who lied about the Vodafone Sure Signal box...
Do you know, I can't think of a single fic in which Bodie and Doyle are marooned overnight in the middle of a flooded field... *g*
Edited to add - this was our sunrise this morning - really unusual (and I've not adjusted the colours at all)

Date: Tuesday, 22 November 2016 11:22 pm (UTC)For some reason when I re-read the bit about B/D being marooned in the car in a flooded field, I immediately pictured the scene in My Cousin Vinny where Vinny and Lisa have had to spend the night in the car in the middle of a field cos everywhere else was too noisy. And then a thunderstorm broke out. *g* And in the morning everything's slippery with mud... *g* Only I'm imagining our lads in the middle of a field, and... *g*
Nice idea about the Vodafone Customer Service guy...!
