I think I spotted a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey flying over the farm yesterday! I've been trying to be so good and not go running around to check out every aircraft noise I hear when I'm supposed to be working, but this is why I should - by the time I thought no, that sounds different, it was already too distant to see properly. I did take a couple of pics when I realised what I was seeing though, because huh?!

I could tell there were two propellers where there shouldn't be, and it clearly wasn't one of the Chinooks that we often get.

Downloaded the pics just now, and did some googling - the Bell 280 which came up first didn't look right, but this one did, based up in Herefordshire last year. And then I found a vid, which looks like it's from years ago at the Farnborough show, and wiki says they were first developed back in the late 1980s - but it's the first time I've ever seen one! Also, the wiki article has a picture showing condensation being thrown off the propellers, which might be what's making that blurring across the top in the pictures, perhaps... *g*

How cool is that though - and I gather they've been used to bring supplies to countries devastated by hurricanes etc., so that's something good too...

Okay, back to the coal mines... word mines?

...cos I went out yesterday especially to take some with my new camera... Of course I also went out to go walking around a national nature reserve, but that didn't happen either and I ended up briefly at the beach... *g*

Beachy bit )

And I saw the Avro Vulcan! I just happened to look up at a plane noise on my way back from the beach at Charmouth, and there it was! It was flying quite slowly - I nabbed this pic with my ordinary lens (18-55) and then got my telephoto lens out as fast as I could, but this was still the best pic, blown up to 200% - almost identical to the pic on this page - well in shape, not colour or clarity. *g*

It's the last Vulcan flying, and it'll be grounded after this year, apparently, cos it's reached the end of its flying hours...

There was a pretty good sunset last night - I only realised when I happened to glance at the window and saw the clouds glowing red. Queue grabbing camera and legging it outside... *g*

Books and books... )

And now I'm going to have to go and do something that makes noise, before the current incredibly-loud-music-somewhere-bashing-across-the-countryside drives me mad... There I thought this was a reasonable backwater of countryside, with no reason other than the road to be anything other than peaceful... there is clearly going to be another move in my life, preferably before next summer, though quite honestly I can't face the thought yet... *sighs*

How're you all doing...? What's exciting in the world? Life? On the internet in front of you...? *g*

I've just seen the atlas on my bookshelf, virtually right in front of me and up a bit, suddenly stand itself upright from its leaning position against the side of the bookcase... *g* It was very gentle, just a slight crunching of the dustcover as it came up - it'd been leaning about an inch, I suppose, so a fair old hoik to get upright, though not extreme... Nothing had been pushed or rattled or shaken, just me sitting here typing gently on my laptop, a couple of surfaces below... *g*

If I hadn't tipped everything the other way when I took the dictionary out from its place further down the line earlier this evening, and then tipped everything except the atlas back again, I'd be more impressed by its supernatural self, but I presume it simply had to do with the way its pages and so on had ended up sitting.

But it did just do it all by itself - quite impressive, mechanically, for the pages and cover and everything to be in the right position to be able to - and I can quite see how in a spookier house, in less prosaic circumstances, someone might want to shout ghooooooost! *g*

One of the most haunted things I've ever seen, I think... can you tell that my mum's spookiness took a genetic leap right over me...?

ETA - bloody 'ell, and Scary II - I swear that aeroplane must have had trouble getting off the ground, it was so low over the end of our village - if it'd been daylight I could have counted the pilot's eyelashes... I could hear the engine sounding as if it was struggling, which is why I looked out the window, and then saw these massive red and green undercarriage lights heading this way, on something that looked like it was desperately trying to climb - a cargo-ish size plane, or at least I hope so, rather than passenger!

And there I thought it was a dull evening, back to Job 3 after a long prior evening of Job 2, following the day's Job 1! Ghosts and frighteningly low aircraft - a little like those snatches of dream scenarios that you remember when you wake up... which I swear I am... *g*

First of all, a big hooray cos I finished marking in time - although they've already given me extra, and we're not even at the bonus deadline yet, never mind the regular one... *g* But yeay, officially finished!

Second of all - they missed out the whole Northwest Passage thing from Empire of the Seas, which waah, but still it was kind of a decent series, and the first one I've watched like that for ages, so... *g* It's all about the water... Thames Barges next... *vbg*

Third of all, I don't often watch Jonathan Ross, but it turned out John Barrowman was on tonight, and since I missed him doing all his talk shows when I was in Alaska, I thought I'd leave him on, and... heee! I was kind of watching through squinted eyes, but he just always seems to be having the best time - and heee for him pretending to faint when Shahrukh Khan kissed him, and hee for him singing Copacabana, and being excited about the whole Desperate Housewives thing, and talking about TW and DW, and... yeah. Some people just do make you feel happy just by being. *g*

And fourthly of all... [livejournal.com profile] greengerbil gave me these five icons to talk about, so...

...I will... *g* )

I should definitely be in bed. Or at least doing something useful. But... I don't think I'd seen these before... *g*

And planes!

Right - bed! I'm going to bed! Pros-y weekend tomorrow - wheeee! But first... bed. *g*
