Happy New Year!

I'm already a bit behind and a bit challenged, but let's see if I can yet again try and post a bit more often to lj (because when I do it means I get to talk to lj-friends, and they hopefully talk to me back! *g*). It's not been the most auspicious start to the year, I have to say. I tried to call my mum to say happy new year, only she must have left her phone handset somewhere, because it kept coming up "unavailable". The forecast yesterday was mostly dry, so I decided I'd finally get my bathtub-pond cleared of the leaves that fell into it, work out how to seal the plug in non-toxically, and see if it would hold water. So it rained most of the day instead. Never mind, I thought, I'll write my [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj story instead - only my computer file had utterly vanished, and I spent ages looking for it instead of actually writing it. Argh! Luckily I'd printed at least most of it out, so it's salvagable, but aaaaaaargh!

At least the sun showed itself a little bit, and by the evening there was even a promising slash of deep pink across the sunset...

Luckily, that glimpse of red sky at night managed some magic, and the second day of the year turned out much better! I got chores done, and even though it rained there was a chance to dodge the rain and clear away my storm-blown pallet box bits to somewhere they could dry, and clear out my bath-tub-pond and add some experimental will-it-still-be-there-tomorrow water, and even to make a re-start on my story for the 6th Jan...

That was the year that wasn't? )

Have some pics from today.

There was quite a bit of rain amongst all that, but I didn't go outside for that. I did get caught in it twice when I was trying to sort garden stuff though!

All of which rather dull entry is a way of saying I'm going to try and post more this year. And to be less dull. *g* And to go somewhere, after two years of being good and mostly staying at home! That may help mitigate the dullness. *g*

How're you doing? Any nice plans for 2022?

Oh, 2020...

I am eternally behind, it seems, and tradition says that since I've started the new year like that, it's going to carry on. We'll see... *g* It's been ages since I posted - it seems like the less officially busy I get, the harder I find it to post too, weirdly enough. My last post was 26th November, just before examining was over and I settled back into proofreading, then I had two weeks off, with only a day and a bit left - and how many posts have I made? Well, a few if you count [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj and Yuletide, but none here...

So how are you? Hope you had a good December and Christmas and New Year, even if they were quieter than usual. I finally had time to sort this place out a bit more - I've alphabetised music, dvds and books; I can find things again! And put photo-type things into chronological order. Cos I'm like that. *g* It feels better, though there's still all sorts to do, including the UK Paper Circuit Library. I'm hesitating a bit because despite deciding, and people agreeing, that it's best to just throw out the stories that are online, since they're old and hard to read and often slightly smelly, I hate throwing away paper fic! I will though, I'll gird all the bits that need girding, and do it.

In the meantime - 2020...  )

Fandomwise, I have to say that emotional rollercoasters aren't brilliant for writing - but then that might just be a continuation of me over the last few years. That said, I seem to have written ten fics - all but one Pros. And Pros FandomCards was fun and brightened up Christmas no end, and I still have to catch up on commenting on the Discovered in a Box of Baubles posts, and replying too, but I will...

The other one was my Yuletide fic, which also turned out to be on the crazy side - I requested and offered my usual small fandoms (Astreiant, Charm of Magpies, and Mathey/Lynes) (and I received an Astreiant fic! Wheee!), but I was thinking about re-reading an old favourite series at the time, and so I threw them into the mix - and that was only the assignment I was given, wasn't it! So I ended up writing Altogether Your World, which is for The Dark is Rising fandom, and set many years later when the characters have all grown up. Among other things I remember telling someone years ago that I couldn't even think of that as a slash fandom, because they were kids books, and I really couldn't... but then you glance at the odd story to see how much it makes you go eww, and when it's well-written enough... So I was able to offer it, in the end. And the story seems to have gone down pretty well, so phew - I wish I'd had time to make it a bit longer though, I think it needed more... Still - done!

I'm thinking maybe I should try posting a pic each day again to try and cheer up January a bit... I've one more day before I'm back to work, and then I feel like I'm going to need something! Decorations down on Tuesday, too, so yeah, I need to think about a different kind of decoration, right?! *g*

I can't believe I'm only just posting again after having so many days off - and wondering if I'll manage at all to make my now-traditional (*g*) new year's eve post. Twelve whole days off I had, and I didn't even manage to reply to all the lovely people who talked to me last time I posted... I'm sorry! Again... Where does my time go? Come to think of it, maybe it has been a bit of an odd'un this year. I suppose it went something like this:
- finished work, hurrah, 12 days off!
- desperate dash to write fic for my [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj day
- attempt to do chores, shop, re-decorate Christmas tree (don't ask...) and all that
- more food saving stuff/people to meet etc. (new application is in!)
- desperate dash to finish Yuletide story properly, after submitting only something that would do at the deadline. Thank goodness for edits! Interspersed with Skyping Australia (no, not all of it, just family... *g*) for their Christmas on my Christmas eve. I finished the story at 5.30am on Christmas morning, and it's been a long time since I pulled that kind of all-nighter! Even for work I'm usually done by 4am-ish. Queue eep-worry-etc., but it seems to have gone down pretty well, so phew. My first time writing entirely for a fandom that isn't Pros, too...
- Christmas day. The rest of it. Landlords had invited me for drinks, so I'd set my alarm, woken up before it went off, ate a banana and finished off my breakfast with a glass of red wine... Not sure I've ever done that before! Then just had a quiet one, including fab things like the new Gavin and Stacey. *g*
- Crashed day! I did nothing on Boxing day. Which is when I could have got my manners together and replied to people...
- I was a good girl the next day, and gathered together my accounts for January taxes day... I always swear I'll do it early...
- various other chores
- watching all the Star Wars films in order, ready to go and see The Rise of Skywalker last night - wheee! It took ages (obviously!) but I did it, for the first time ever, and it made a huge difference when I saw this one, so I was really glad I'd done it. Also, wow - spin-offs etc. to come notwithstanding, that's the end of the three trilogies, end of that era... it took almost my whole life so far!
- and then it was today, and I went to see a mate (and listen to her partner's practice forensics lecture, which was fun and took me back), then shopping and laundry. I have a feeling that I'm going to see the new year in surrounded by bathmats and knickers, cos my dryer just isn't that fast, and I have no radiators to hurry the process along...!

Anyway - by the time you read at least this sentence - happy new year! Here's to 2020 being better in sooooo many ways.

Ha - well that's good, cos I renewed my lj for another year last month. *g*

You can get card with your statistics here!

I'm pretty sure the comments must be comments everywhere, and include things like sign-up posts for [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj and all, but still. It reminds me that there is still lj and Pros on lj, and that we're all still here. And one of my resolutions for next year is to reply to every comment, no matter how busy I am and/or no matter how late I have to do it. Because they always make me smile, and it's fairly shocking that my manners have been slipping so much. I'm very glad you're all around!

I think a fair amount of credit probably has to go to these two as well... *g*

So much for the end-of-2017 and hello-2018 posts that I was going to make - hey-ho! The box-unpacking continues, down to the last few, and now it's all about finding places for the less obvious bits and pieces, and sometimes rearranging what I did to start with. But I do now have a basically functional house again - hurrah! So I'm now sitting in my mezzanine office, looking down on (uh-oh, the slightly dying embers of) my fireplace, all cosy and snug. *g* Which is good, cos there's a bitter wind outside! So let's see how we get on with this whole 2017/2018 thing now that I'm up here!

Well, this is it - a photo (at least one!) taken every day for a whole year (a leap year, at that!) and posted for people to see. It's been quite fun - thank you for bearing with me! Here are the pictures for the 31st December 2016. Glastonbury and Wells...

...and then I came home, and there was little tree (there's always a Little Tree somewhere *g*)

I really wanted to find a way to post the pics all together as thumbnails or something, and got partway through doing it via lj - but there was too much code to fit in a single post! I tried to find some programme that'd do it, but erk... and I started to make 366 of them into a vid, but I forgot I'd need somewhere to post it to, so that's not finished either! Ah well - they're all under my 366 tag. *g*

And that was 2016 - look, a bellybutton! )

Alright, so 2017... )

I've enjoyed posting every day (well, most days) this year with the photo project - it's been nice to be regularly online and see people around here. I'm wondering if I should make a sort of commitment to post regularly again, cos it's easy to let it slide. Maybe I'll try posting every day, but not about anything in particular. Except... maybe I'll commit to posting about Pros once a week. Maybe we should make that a challenge for anyone who still loves the lads - a regular post, whether it's weekly, or monthly (daily...? *g*) or quarterly, or whatever fits in. *g*

I dunno - what d'you reckon? What should I do to keep my corner of lj alive? What would anyone be interested in reading about/seeing? Or perhaps utter quietness is what you're hoping for after this year's efforts! *g*

It's a fresh, shiny new year - what shall we do?! *g*
byslantedlight: (BD Skyrocket (empty_mirrors))
Well, it's all changing again in that staying-the-same-really way that it has - and I am blissfully having a quiet one at home. I'm gonna ramble about this year a bit though... *g*

What have I done this year? Mostly, I think, I just lived in Somerset for a bit, and didn't really do much, but I did do things... I worked with words. I worked with history. I volunteered with history. And I worked a bit more with history. Sounds better than getting more specific, that. *g* I spent three days in Cornwall, which was lovely, and a weekend in Stratford, and a meeting or two in London, and dotted about the countryside here a bit, but otherwise I kept on working. Not clever that, I've been a bit wiped out now for months and that's probably partly why. Shall do better in 2016. Plus I have my passport back - hello, world! There must be going somewhere this year - lots of it! But back to this (still) year...

I read books! )

I read fanfic... )

I wrote fanfic... )

I watched telly a bit... )

What else? Not much really... oh, I learned some stuff! I learned archery, and fiddle, and started learning book-binding! So that was quite cool. The archery sadly fell off, cos Job 2 interfered, and it all got a bit lycra-shirts and how-many-laser-sights-can-you-attach-to-your-bow, which wasn't where I wanted to go with it. Glad I did it though, and hopefully in the future... *g* I'm not practicing my fiddle enough - but I'm definitely better than at the start of the year! And I've made one wee book and am halfway through binding a photo album. So cool. Oh, I began a 365 photo project, but stopped when I realised I was spending more time online as a result, rather than getting out of the house more... that was also the reason I finally gave in and got a Facebook, and to be honest I'm not overly happy about it, except for being able to follow one of my favourite writers (KJ Charles) who posts wee extras now and then. But there now, and it's tricky to back away again when there's family there, so...

Oh - I saw a comet! And a lunar eclipse! And a solar eclipse! Actually, 2015 was a pretty good year, sky-spotting-wise! *g* I even managed to catch a bit of the Milky Way on a photo, though only if you look very hard. But yeay!

So what about 2016? )

So them's my plans. If you're still around at the end of all that - happy 2016 to you!
byslantedlight: (Default)

So... it's that time again again and already, where we look back on the year and think... wtf? Or, you know, something else... *g* So I thought I would too... It's been one of those parson's egg type of years - really more gorgeous things than lousy, but the couple of properly lousy ones were fairly lousy...Isn't it funny (and annoying) how they can so easily eclipse the fab things... But there have been many fab things this year - MS in The Country Girl, holidays on a barge in Maldon, in a sunny Cambs., on a summer weekend in May, camping in Dorset, looping the loop in a Stearman, wandering all around the Cornish Birdwatching south west, in an Aga-d cottage in Derbyshire, and back again to Devon... and more MS in The Country Girl, and the Scarsdale, and... just... lots of gorgeous things. In fact too many to put on my one-pic-for-each-month thingie below, even... Although I did included one of the non-gorgeous things, cos it was a biggish-impact kind of thing... didn't include the stairs I fell head-first down, though... *g*
