Happy New Year!

I'm already a bit behind and a bit challenged, but let's see if I can yet again try and post a bit more often to lj (because when I do it means I get to talk to lj-friends, and they hopefully talk to me back! *g*). It's not been the most auspicious start to the year, I have to say. I tried to call my mum to say happy new year, only she must have left her phone handset somewhere, because it kept coming up "unavailable". The forecast yesterday was mostly dry, so I decided I'd finally get my bathtub-pond cleared of the leaves that fell into it, work out how to seal the plug in non-toxically, and see if it would hold water. So it rained most of the day instead. Never mind, I thought, I'll write my [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj story instead - only my computer file had utterly vanished, and I spent ages looking for it instead of actually writing it. Argh! Luckily I'd printed at least most of it out, so it's salvagable, but aaaaaaargh!

At least the sun showed itself a little bit, and by the evening there was even a promising slash of deep pink across the sunset...

Luckily, that glimpse of red sky at night managed some magic, and the second day of the year turned out much better! I got chores done, and even though it rained there was a chance to dodge the rain and clear away my storm-blown pallet box bits to somewhere they could dry, and clear out my bath-tub-pond and add some experimental will-it-still-be-there-tomorrow water, and even to make a re-start on my story for the 6th Jan...

I must admit that at this stage I can barely remember what happened last year at all... I remember mad exam marking, and a caravan in Wales, and my lovely car unexpectedly giving up the ghost and being replaced by blue car, and [livejournal.com profile] helenraven coming to visit, and then going to stay with her in London when I went to the Van Gogh Immersive Exhibition, and meeting a new Pros friend at a National Trust place for fab chats while the world and its weather just got on around us... *g* I'm sure there must have been more to it all than that, but...?! Well, apart from covid and all, obviously... There was food saving still - that's going strong. And Day Job 1, of course (but I'm not talking about that until I have to, on Tuesday...) Oh - ending up on the local history society committee, and being put in charge of the website and writing a booklet on the railway here! There was a wee bit of metal detecting, but not enough. Lots of reading. And my Christmas present to me was buying more bookcases to slot behind the sofa, so that now I live in a library. I like it. *g*

Have some pics from today.

There was quite a bit of rain amongst all that, but I didn't go outside for that. I did get caught in it twice when I was trying to sort garden stuff though!

All of which rather dull entry is a way of saying I'm going to try and post more this year. And to be less dull. *g* And to go somewhere, after two years of being good and mostly staying at home! That may help mitigate the dullness. *g*

How're you doing? Any nice plans for 2022?

Oh no! I'm sorry you lost the computer file of your story. Fortunate that you printed part of it out.

I am doing better than I was at the beginning of last month. I'm also waiting to hear whether I will get to move back to Montana in March. (That is, whether there will be an opening for me in public housing.) If so, it will be much sooner than expected, and lead to a bit of a time crunch, but I think I will be able to manage it with help.

I still might not finish the story, as I managed to have a second semi-disaster today. Well, not quite a disaster, but an owie that does not help with typing at all!

Cross fingers for your housing in Montana - sounds like there are happier things there for you, which is always good!

t's so frustrating when one has to reconstruct fic that was already written! I hope it turns out even better.

My plans for 2022 are to not do taxes and try to get an apartment on my Social Security. Keep losing weight and lower my blood sugar and the number of my medications.

And keep writing fic.

I have a feeling it's not going to turn out at all - I should really have written more of it over the year too... although then I suppose I would have just lost more of it too... *headdesk* We'll see!

I'm also cringing from that "t" word, which I need to pay before the end of the month. I don't know why that always makes me nervous, but it does!

Good luck with the apartment - and also the weight and blood sugar, which I'm totally with you on, and the meds! Here's to a healthier year for us all!

And yeay fic!

I think causing nerves in taxpayers is one of the goals of taaxes, Why else would tax law be so complicated? But I hope your taxpaying is as stress-free as possible. Definately yay fic1

I wish I had some new adjectives to hand but suffice to say those really are gorgeous pictures and I love them! Thank you.

Oh I feel for you, that aaaaaaargh! is so justified, but I'm glad you printed it out! My experience is that if I have to rewrite something from scratch is is never ever as good the second time around :(

I have the same experience with the rewriting! And I definitely remember writing more of it too, which I clearly did after printing this section, so there's definitely going to be an element of that... :( But it could be worse, obviously!

I know a couple of people who wrote in the earlier days of computers/word processors (at that time, we hadn't all learned the importance of constance backing up) and sometimes lost everything on a floppy disk...

I think you did quite a bit, considering. I especially loved seeing your travel through Wales. I didn't see that much of it while I was there, so your travelogue helped make up the difference.

Only plan for 2022 is to try to make it back to Phoenix for a visit, maybe sometime in March. We'll see how things work out.

I guess it just feels like a lot less than usual... Wales was fun, both times - it was interesting going back to the same place too, because that's not something I often do! Glad you liked the travelogue! *g*

Crossing fingers for your Phoenix visit!

Gorgeous pictures! Have you posted pics of your bathtub-pond before. I'm curious to see what that is. :D

Thank you! *g*

I had a look to see if I'd posted about the bathtub before, because for some reason I thought I had, but can't find any pics on my lj. I'll see what I can find tomorrow - I kind of want to keep track of its development (or lack of, though I hope not!) anyway. *g* It's not looking terribly pretty at the moment though, I must say!

I can hardly believe that was just last year ... seems longer ago, somehow! Those are some gorgeous photos, reckon you've got a sort of Turner-ish Constable in the top right (or is it a Constable-ish Turner :-). Just beautiful!

It really does seem like so long ago, doesn't it - I can barely remember it! Cross fingers omicron settles down, and the new-new one doesn't turn out to be another toughie, and there'll be a chance to visit again soon.

And thank you! I always think that if half the skies we see were paintings, we'd never believe in them!
