I never understood the run-up-to-Christmas mania in the UK that tends to start in early or mid-October (compared to Italy, where it tends to start much later, say roughly mid-November).. . It's like, do I really need nearly three months to buy the few Christmas presents I need to buy!?! What are retailers thinking!?! And... if I have to buy some stuff for me I can do it pretty much any time of the year, when I need it, and not when retailers dictate me...! Perhaps this whole "preparing for Christmas" thing starts so early in the UK (and, from the look of it, down under as well... but at least you've got summer weather there 🤗) because Christmas is perceived to be such a special time of the year where maybe long 'lost' members of family come together, who maybe don't get a chance to meet more often because they live far away or other reasons... So preparing for it becomes a big deal. In Italy, and maybe other southern European countries too, you tend to see your immediate or more distant family more often and more regularly during the year, so Christmas in that respect is not perceived to be that special. It often feels like an enhanced "Sunday", with extendend family gathered around a table eating more elaborate food than normally eaten on other days, but not such a special or rare occurrence... That's my take anyway... 😁
