I tend not to read Dave Matthews site regularly, more browse through when I'm looking for specifics, but today I discovered something interesting in his updated Bullet-In. Thought I'd copy it here in case anyone else missed it at the new year. Also there's a slightly blurry but nice pic of MS in AMFAS : )

"Next year promises a lot more action. For starters two new books heralding the series should be hitting the shelves. Werner Schmitz' German-language tribute is presently being readied for the printing presses while in the UK Bob Rocca is hoping to finalise a deal with a publisher for his own examination of the show. More info on these items soon.

"Long-term readers will be aware that a Professionals movie has been mooted for a number of years. Lack of progress now seems to have laid the idea to rest. However as I always like to end the year on a surprise note, I can reveal that in place of the movie, we may see a new television series! For the last few weeks discussions have been under way with a number of potential backers and apparently there is a strong level of interest. Should everything come together, production may start in the summer. I should clarify that it will have no connection at all to David Wickes' CI5 - The New Professionals and at this stage it is far too early to think about casting decisions. But with the huge success of the BBC series Spooks and, to a lesser degree, ITV's Ultimate Force, clearly there is still an appetite for the action-adventure-drama genre amongst broadcasters (in the UK, at least)."

Hmmmmnnn...

Ooo, a new series. I never caught on to the David Wickes version, basically because neither of the lads appealed to me - though Edward Woodward was inspired to take over from Cowley. I hope they come up with a couple of guys who have chemistry if it does go ahead.

I haven't seen the New Professionals yet, and I suppose it is somewhere on my list, just out of curiousity. And in the same vein I'm curious about this new show too, but I can't imagine it being anything to do with our boys really! Then again, I have no urge to slash anyone except Bodie and Doyle right now, so... A good show is a good show though, so if they're gonna do it I hope they do it right!

I must admit it sounds terribly calculated to me -- Here's a nice, ready-made formula, rather than 'there are amazing things we could do with the whole Professionals concept'. Mind, if it does happen I might do the unthinkable and get a TV licence.

Only 'might', mind.

Drastic measures indeed!

Actually, what with everything going on in the world over the past few years I was shocked when I saw it again by how relevant Pros seemed to be. I mean, here are a bunch of guys going around fighting terrorism (even if there was no such thing as terrorism until Sept 11th, of course...*rolls eyes*), and they have been given carte blanche to run roughshod over the laws "if they need to" - and those decisions are made by a single man at the top... hmmmmn... I wanted to broadcast it from every station and scream Terrorism did not start in 2001 - look! Proof from popular culture in 1977!

Oops. *puts bandaid on sore spot and slopes off for a nice calming shower*

And that's another thing -- using Pros to justify that kind of fascism would just make it dirty.

I like Pros as an escapist picture of another age. As a commentary on this day and age it would kind of suck.

Too true. Funny how something that's famed for being gritty can be considered escapist at the same time, mind. Makes me think about something Portia said over on ProsSlash, wondering if what happened in Heroes could happen these days, and how unlikely it is that it would.

Trouble is, most shows that are made now are commentaries in some way. Ye gods, just had a thought - unless the producers decided to go retro and try setting it contemporary with our lads... Nah, surely not. Right? Surely not? Okay, now I'm worried...
