Am about to dash out for brass and glitz (and dinner) with a Job 2 colleague who happens to be here at the same time - but look! Hello! I'm here... *g* (The more interesting pics are under the cut, but I'm all chronological...)

Last morning in Cambs...

Flying kangaroo (excellent airline - and to think I thought they were all patriotism and hype, like all the rest! I've never had so much leg space, it was lush!

Dubai in view...
2013-11-17 02Dubai 2013-11-17 03Dubai

Room with a view - the 38th floor! That's Burj al-Arab looking all impressive on the beach there -

And then the view was gone! I woke up from my nap, and the view was gone, and I couldn't quite push hard enough to open the window! (Filthy dirty windows, mind - that's the streaks. It's a shame, cos otherwise I have a suite! Me - in a suite!)

Look - gone!
2013-11-17 08RoomViewGone

Luckily it came back and I could open the window again, but it continued breezy... *g* I could see swirls of sand way down on the ground, though not well enough to take a pic.

And then the daylight was gone anyway - the sun sets early here too!

More when I get back, but - I'm he-ere!

Whoop!

It looks and sounds amazing - thank you for the pics. Have fun - don't get spat at by a camel.

Hee - no camels scheduled yet, I must see if I can find one! And yes - very cool so far! *g*

I hope you have a wonderful trip but please do be careful in Dubai. Western women are sometimes targets for violence. Take care!

I can't imagine I'll be wandering anywhere dodgy - I don't tend to where ever I am in the world when I'm on my own - so I'm sure I'll be fine! Dubai is all very civilised so far... *g*

The skyscrapers in Dubai were absolutely fabulous - very different, I remember sphinxes and gilt and all sorts! Enjoy, and stay safe.

They are fab! I haven't seen any sphinxes yet, but there's lots of swooping and whooshing from a distance! I tend to be quite careful when I'm wandering on my own, so - careful and safe! *g*

I imagine you are now out for your brass and glitz and dinner (seriously - you are eating brass? And glitz?) but wow for the first stage. And the windows - is that bright blue an artefact of the glass or what?

And, whoa. On the picture of the open window (and, um, was it meant to open? On the 38th floor?)... there is something really really strange there. Have another look at what you have captured. The billows of the curtains create the image of a gigantic transparent head and neck, gazing out over Dubai.

I'm not sure what to call this... creation of yours - a spirit, a watcher, a mirage, but now that I have seen him, I can't stop seeing him!

There was an "and" in that description - so we ate mezze type Lebanese, which was delish...

The bright blue is another tower, but I don't know if it's something in particular, if you see what I mean...

And yes the window is meant to open on the 38th floor! It doesn't open far - I'd have to try seriously hard to fall out... *g* I see your face - how clever of you! I just saw curtains, originally - but then I was perhaps more excited about the wee dust storm at the time - outside the curtains! *g*

I also thought, the curtain picture was really interesting. Looks like the outline of a head in profile. In fact, I thought it was a feature on the glass, at first!

What did you have for dinner! And how does it feel, walking around in Dubai?
I've only ever been at the airport (changing planes on the way to Australia), and that was ages ago. But I remember how richly decorated it was, compared to other airports.

Amazing photos! Can't wait to hear more. Enjoy every minute of it! And what a coincidence, meeting a co-worker there!

Hee - you saw a curtain person too! I had to go back and look... *g*

I'm just about to post about dinner, I'll post about dinner tomorrow morning, I promise, so I shall tell you then... *g* I've not really walked around in Dubai yet - and I'm told that people don't, though there must be walking involved somewhere! But so far so good - just been to the Dubai Mall and it was such a mixture of people, very cool - and brassy and glitzy!

My colleague actually works here part time, which I'd forgotten about when I booked the stopover, cos I only tend to see hi once a year - when I did remember it didn't occur to me that he'd be here at the same time, but he was! We were even nearly leaving on the same day, around the same time, but he's been booked into an extra meeting somewhere else now - but he's kindly offered to show me the old town tomorrow night!

You know, I wrote a reply to this, but it's disappeared. ;_;

Mainly wanted to say - have fun and enjoy!

Cool! Glad to know you've arrived safely, and have a suite all to yourself! Luxury up there in there in the near-clouds. *g*

It's wonderful you have someone to have dinner with right away, and to show you around a bit. That's always nice for starters. I'm looking forward to hearing more about it. Dubai! That's very exotic to me. *g*
