(Ignore these numbers, though you may see them alot over the next month - and hear cries of despair if they stop being crossed off...)

(Actually this is just a wittering post in general, so feel free to ignore - you know, in general. *g*)

I have words, and I have enthusiasm, and I wish I didn't have to do work at the same time because I want to be writing, and I have a broken filling/tooth and an appointment with the dentist on Friday. I am wearing two pairs of trousers in my room today, and multiple top layers, a blanket over my lap and a hot water bottle tucked in between - but thank goodness the heating seems to be coming on!

I did actually leave the house this morning - I have carrots and I don't like carrots so I decided to make carrot cake, which required about £10 worth of ingredients that I would normally have as standard in my cupboards, so isn't really a good idea economically, but still... And so I stopped at Wholefoods for coffee and cake and to gird my loins for work.

I like that we're getting the pretty pictures in the froth over here now, though they're nothing like what's standard back in Aus/NZ. *g*

*pause* Noooo! The heating's gone off again already - it was barely on! I shall have to light a guttering candle soon, and huddle around that... /*pause*

*much later (due to actual lj pause for actual work*) - Yeay, the heating came on again! Actually it came on when I went downstairs to refill my hot water bottle, and J and K were in the kitchen making dinner, and J suggested he turn the heating on... *g* (They were going to anyway, but they would have waited until they realised it was cold cos they were sitting still too *g*) They also offered me a glass of wine - go Monday. Yeay lovely landlords.

And now I have finished work and I have... an hour and a half to write about 700 words to reach my goal for today - eeep! What am I doing here?!

*later again* - dunnit! *points to word count* Of course I have no idea right now how I'm going to get Kenyon back to town without boring the both of us stupid, but that can be a job for tomorrow. I rather think I shall sleep on it... *yawns* And I shall post about Doctor Who, and catch up on replies (sorry, again...) and... and... zzzzz....

I've reached a point where I pout a bit if I don't see some pretty designs in the froth of my flat white. :-)

Hee - I can well imagine! I think I felt a bit like that after only a few months there. *g*

It must be seriously cold if you needed that many layers. At least the landpeople are turning the heating on now and hopefully it will stay on.

On another note, have you seen this? Goodreads Choice Award for the Best Books of 2014. Fairs Point is eligible, in that it was first published in the US in 2014, but when I tried to add it, it came up as ineligible. I've messaged the organisers, asking that it be added to the list of eligible books.

That's the odd thing - it's not all that cold, nowhere near freezing, and even then I'm not usually this chilly. I must be losing my circulation or something... actually I suppose it could have something to do with the thyroid thingie, which regulates all kinds of things, so why not that... I've always been a touch on the Reynaud's side, but usually I'm the other way around - desperately trying to cool down when others are bundling up! The trouble with the heating is that it's only on in the evenings, cos they're both active/out all day, and you can't put it on for just one person. I'll keep snuggling up to hot water bottles in the daytime, I guess!

I've not seen the Goodreads Choice - I joined Goodreads ages ago, found it didn't do quite what I'd wanted it to, and de-joined it, but actually I'm using it more in other ways now, so I should probably go back again... The only thing that I can see now is that they seem to already have closed nominations? And that it's all done via Goodreads statistics? (Which means I really should join to improve the stats of my favourite books, if nothing else... *g*) Or are you seeing something that I'm not perhaps, as a non-member...?

My sister had her thyroid removed a few years ago and her doctor told her to expect to feel cold a lot, so perhaps it is a symptom of your problem too.

The first round of nominations and voting doesn't close until November 8 so maybe you do need to be a member to see it.

Ah, that's interesting about your sister - I remember your telling me she'd had that. They don't need to take mine away, it's vanishing all by itself, apparently... *headdesk* Bugger about the cold though - although perhaps it just means I'll end up looking more like other people around here, appropriately bundled up!

What I see is "Opening Round nominees, Cast Your Vote", which sounds like it's a done deal - it doesn't mention nominating anyone else... which category would Fair's Point fit into? (Am I missing an m/m category, too? I seem to remember seeing one of those in other years, unless I'm confusing it...)

That sounds like the main page; I then clicked on the category heading for Fantasy (the category on the back of the book) and then entered Fairs Point in the free form text field. At first I got a message saying that it wasn't eligible so I contacted the Librarian and she / he seems to have fixed it up, because when I went back there five minutes ago I was able to enter the book and vote for it.

M/M category didn't come up as a separate voting category.

Oh dear, I remember another reason I thought perhaps Goodreads wasn't a brilliant idea for me - I joined up again and have managed to lose an hour or more wandering around! Ah well, I will control myself... *g* And I've put my vote in for Fair's Point - and well-done for getting it up and nominated! *vbg* I must be thinking of some other m/m voting thingie...

Sorry about the cold - hope you've got a spot of sunshine today at least!

And yay for writing happening, and numbers being x'd off! (so, you set yourself a daily minimum by dividing the target total by the number of days, then rounded it up to a whole number ('cause repeating decimals, really?) hence the total of ten over ... ?) - go you! ::cheers from sidelines:: :-)

We had almost-frost this morning, then a bit of rain, now various flashes of dramatic clouds and blue skies, and the sun even poking out occasionally! And shortly I shall go downstairs and make carrot cake, which should be warming too!

And yeay writing! Though I've only managed a read-through and about 20 words so far today, but I've not started work either, so eep! And yeah, the daily total is something like 1667 rounded up from the decimal (I had to do the adding for the list-of-numbers above, but the NaNoWriMo stats came up with 1667 per day (well, I say came up with... *g*) I do wish I could spend the day concentrating on it, mind - up until the point that it's the weekend, and I can, and I find that I want to go and do other things instead... honest, I'm rubbish! But right now I wish I was doing that instead of starting work... *sighs*

I know what you mean about the pull and drag of starting and avoiding work! My weekdays can be pretty full in addition to study so I'll tell myself I'll devote the weekend - [normally quiet] to catching up. Except that when Saturday morning rolls around it feels is like a siren call 'to be out in the sun' simply because everybody else is = resistance is challenging....Kiashi

I've been looking forward to today - Saturday - all week, but now that I'm here I realise I have just as many things to do as on a weekday, if not more. More enjoyable ones, mind - I think that's the key!
