Hurrah - it's Friday night, I can haz wine (though not much cos I've not really had dinner... *g*) and work is finished, and I got through to my mum before she was hijacked off to the beach for her 80th birthday, and I got through to the flowers place at last who didn't send me confirmation that they got my order for many big Australian flowers, and now all I need to do is put my laundry away, and then it is all about...

...catching up many many words on my NaNoWriMo! But I know where they go now! I didn't yesterday, but now I do! Hurrah!

[livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj's Discovered on a Silent Night calendar is all filled up (hurrah!) and the Pros FandomCard exchange is totally go (and as of Monday I shall be getting on with that from my end too) and... oh, and there's not many days to sort it, but there's usually the [livejournal.com profile] ci5hq Christmas ProsFic calendar too... I totally have plans to read Christmas-y Pros fic in December, and I thought I might post about them as I went, but I wonder if anyone else would fancy doing it this year? It's nice having Christmas Pros-y fic at Christmastime... *g* Maybe I should ask...

Did I mention that I have four days off in a row now? Four days! For writing and moving into my wee Annexe and getting my zines and things out, and putting books and dvds on my bookcases, and getting my telly out... I can haz telly again! Um... is there anything actually on?!

And I am actually thinking about getting Facebook finally, cos KJ Charles is posting all sorts of wonderful Charm of Magpies stuff there and only there, and I wants to see it Bagginses..., and I do not want the Magpie universe to end...

Oh! And when I went to dry clothes at the (shiny clean friendly incredibly-fast-drying-machines) laundrette in nearest-town, it turned out that it was getting its Christmas on! I couldn't stay for the big Christmas-tree-light-turning-on, but here's what it looked like so far...

7598 words of my Victorian m/m story in two and the remainder-of-today days. I can do that, right?
byslantedlight: (NaNoWriMo)
First of all - blimey, I did it! I caught up my lost NaNoWriMo days, and I'm properly more than a quarter of the way through - wheee!
ClockCometsSmall
I took myself out for an explore and a walk today, determined to shake off a droning headache and focus on Kenyon and Cross, and it worked - I finally sorted out what was going to happen for most of the beginning and middle, and for the ultimate end. Yeay.

It was also a gorgeous day - and I think we're pretty much into winter days here now, which I think I ultimately measure by the number of winter-bare trees around, which seems to be most of them! In fact Saturday was like this:
2014-11-08 Rain
all rain and bluster to start with, though it quietened down eventually. And there was dinner with landlords again (my turn to cook) which turned out both convivial and edible, so that was nice... *g*

Then today dawned like this... )
byslantedlight: (NaNoWriMo)
Apparently I really shouldn't post to say that I'm doing well with NaNoWriMo, because I immediately can't write the day after. Or much the day after that. Eeeeep!

1667 - 3334 - 5001 - 6668 - 8335 - 10,002 - 11,669 - 13,336 - 15,003 - 16,670 - 18,337 - 20,004 - 21,671 - 23,338 - 25,005 - 26,672 - 28,339 - 30,006 - 31,673 - 33,340 - 35,007 - 36,674 - 38,341 - 40,008 - 41,675 - 43,342 - 45,009 - 46,676 - 48,343 - 50,010.

...except, it's a good few hours after I wrote that, and I'm really going to regret this tomorrow morning, and I'm sitting here bloody freezing - but I've actually managed to catch up! Whoo-hoo! And I've got Kenyon and Cross back together for their second meeting, and all is proceeding apace! Yeay! *g*

All of which is pretty meaningless to anyone who isn't me, but... yeay. *g*
byslantedlight: (NaNoWriMo)
(Ignore these numbers, though you may see them alot over the next month - and hear cries of despair if they stop being crossed off...)
1667 - 3334 - 5001 - 6668 - 8335 - 10,002 - 11,669 - 13,336 - 15,003 - 16,670 - 18,337 - 20,004 - 21,671 - 23,338 - 25,005 - 26,672 - 28,339 - 30,006 - 31,673 - 33,340 - 35,007 - 36,674 - 38,341 - 40,008 - 41,675 - 43,342 - 45,009 - 46,676 - 48,343 - 50,010.
(Actually this is just a wittering post in general, so feel free to ignore - you know, in general. *g*)

I have words, and I have enthusiasm, and I wish I didn't have to do work at the same time because I want to be writing, and I have a broken filling/tooth and an appointment with the dentist on Friday. I am wearing two pairs of trousers in my room today, and multiple top layers, a blanket over my lap and a hot water bottle tucked in between - but thank goodness the heating seems to be coming on!

I did actually leave the house this morning - I have carrots and I don't like carrots so I decided to make carrot cake, which required about £10 worth of ingredients that I would normally have as standard in my cupboards, so isn't really a good idea economically, but still... And so I stopped at Wholefoods for coffee and cake and to gird my loins for work.
2014-11-03 01Breakfast
I like that we're getting the pretty pictures in the froth over here now, though they're nothing like what's standard back in Aus/NZ. *g*

*pause* Noooo! The heating's gone off again already - it was barely on! I shall have to light a guttering candle soon, and huddle around that... /*pause*

*much later (due to actual lj pause for actual work*) - Yeay, the heating came on again! Actually it came on when I went downstairs to refill my hot water bottle, and J and K were in the kitchen making dinner, and J suggested he turn the heating on... *g* (They were going to anyway, but they would have waited until they realised it was cold cos they were sitting still too *g*) They also offered me a glass of wine - go Monday. Yeay lovely landlords.

And now I have finished work and I have... an hour and a half to write about 700 words to reach my goal for today - eeep! What am I doing here?!

*later again* - dunnit! *points to word count* Of course I have no idea right now how I'm going to get Kenyon back to town without boring the both of us stupid, but that can be a job for tomorrow. I rather think I shall sleep on it... *yawns* And I shall post about Doctor Who, and catch up on replies (sorry, again...) and... and... zzzzz....
byslantedlight: (NaNoWriMo)
...and by the time I got to the end of them and thought Oh-I'm-sleepy-but-I-must-post, my next question was but what about...? But here I am at last, so let's see what we've got!

Thursday was Bath day again, the third one, but for some reason it just wasn't happening for me, which was annoying - the writing group, I mean. I was there, but there wasn't much writing going on in my head. I blame myself for checking my email just before I went in, and there being a work email I didn't have time to deal with - I was all distracted... On the bright side, once I'd pottered around for some chores, I decided to go home and work, because I had a place to work at home and it was nice. *g*

Friday was... erm, can't remember. Work of course, and I got it all done, and... nope, it's a blank. Oh, dinner with K and J (landlords)! Very nice and chatty and friendly and all.

Saturday was more shopping than I'd meant to do, and going to try and track down Apparitions in my storage, only to realise that it was in a bag way at the back, underneath the bicycle and the shelves and the suitcase, and the... So maybe I'll have to stick to re-watching LC's Jack the Ripper instead. Although - that did make me think...
Participant-2014-Web-BannerSmall

Sunday I decided would be an at-home day, a no-spending-money-day (okay, I may have ordered A Death at the Dioysus Club from Wordery online bookshop, but that doesn't really count... *g*) and hopefully a deciding-what-to-write-for-NaNoWriMo day. See, I think that part of the reason NaNo works for me is that for an entire month I'm absolutely allowed to be completely immersed in the world that I'm writing - everything else, work included, has to fit around that. So I'm not sure about my initial idea of finishing things up after all cos I'd be chopping and changing between worlds. But... then I remembered a story that I forgot to include in my list the other day, maybe because I've barely started it (except for the overall plot, which I do have) - my Victorian story!
ClockCometsSmall
Remember that? I got tangled up in wanting to do lots and lots of research for it, when what I really need to do is write it. So maybe I should do that for NaNoWriMo, right? Plus - (thanks [livejournal.com profile] solosundance for posting it, cos I hadn't actually checked it out yet) how well does this year's banner fit a Victorian story?! So... I think maybe...yes. Probably. Cos if I finish Two Go Adventuring Again first, then I'll be not-fresh to start the third Pros story, and although I could have a go at a steampunk-ish original fic I've got bubbling in the back of my brain... well, Kenyon and Cross are rather like Bodie and Doyle in my head, and I figure that might be a good enough cushion to keep me comfortable with trying a historical story... The only thing like that I've done for years was also based on LC's Godley from Jack the Ripper, Towards Home, and I'm not sure that the time it was set comes through at all, really... eep! So I'm still a bit worried it might not work, but if I start getting my Victorian on this week, then by the time we get to the first of November I'll be all ready to go - right? Well, that's the plan... *g*

Okay, I'm rambling now, aren't I? *g* Oh - and my other plan (apart from the whole moving-into-the-annexe-at-the-end-of-November) is that I will rise to a challenge set me by Kiashi - "taking lots of atmospheric photos of all things pertaining to an "English winter". All I have so far is:
2014-10-24 01Rain
But that's cos I didn't go anywhere atmospheric, and it's been a bit flat and grey in between the occasional touch of damp rain. It will get better, I promise!

Oh - and they've decided to turn the heating on for a bit in the evening - yeay, it'll hopefully just take the edge off enough! Though we're back up to 16C again tomorrow (my plan is to do laundry, cos the one thing they don't have here are tumble driers!) Right - I shall go and snuggle up with Sergeant Godley, I think... *g* Come to think of it, the book I'm reading for the R.I.P. challenge right now is set in Victorian times - I shall get on with it! And a new Mathey and Lynes book winging it's way here too - more inspiration. Yeay! I can do this, right? Kenyon and Cross for NaNoWriMo!

Thursday post...

...because it's Thursday. I was going to do a Wednesday one, but... then I went home... *g*

Right - first of all:
NaNoWriMoWinnerBigPic

Done it! *g* 50,000 words in a month - actually in less than a month, clearly, as you've seen from my whinging... With any luck that's my blockage over - wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that I also took November off Job 3... I might have to think about that one... I haven't actually finished the story, there's definitely a few more chapters to go, but I think just having managed the 50,000 words counts, so I went ahead and validated (even though I have another couple of days to go - actually I kind of wish I hadn't now, cos of course I've lost my word-counter, which I rather liked updating. I know there's one in Word itself (obviously) but it's not the same as checking it, then going to update a pretty-picture-type icon elsewhere, somehow... it's that extra step that gives a sense of better accomplishment to it, somehow... Ah well - I wrote a Pros novel! *g*

And some other rambles )
byslantedlight: (BD When Love Snow (hambelandjemima))
Some whiffling to keep me going today - feel free to ignore, I shall be editing/updating here to prod myself to keep going with various goals!

It's snowing, cos I'm with the lads in Dorset in 2010... *g*

NaNoWriMo catch-up...
Saturday - Managed 3479 words yesterday, which was two"average" NaNo days' worth of writing. It's a start, right?

Sunday Goal One - caught up to Wednesday 7th November (ack - 10 days still to catch up - more days than I've actually written for yet...) (1056 words written so far today - I'm better into it than I was yesterday already...)

Sunday Goal Two - 12,000 words! Okay, not an official goal, but round numbers are nice... *g* But how is it past noon, suddenly? Noooooo!

Sunday Goal Three - 1500 words written today (another unofficial, but round-number goal!) But... why Firrester Farm? Why not Kirrin Farm? What was I thinking last time...? Stoopid sequel-writing...

Sunday Official Goal (Four) - Yes!, 1690 words written, officially what I should have written every day of the challenge. Now only... another 1000 words and I'll have caught up another day...

Sunday Decision - I do not need to go to the supermarket, I can make do with what I've got and shop tomorrow between Job 1 and Job 2. More writing time today! So now I'm clean but have at least an extra hour or two to write today! *g*

Sunday Goal Five - yeay - 13,000 words!

Sunday Goal Six - 13,450 words - that's another day caught up, the 8th! I do like these many little goals... *g* So it's now the 9th of November...

Sunday Goal Seven - 14,347 words - past 14,000 words and Goal Eight - 3689 words so far today, that's more than yesterday!
You know it was really cold in Dorset, in 2010... *shivers*... I'm surprised every time I stop writing and get up to go and do something else. It's not actually all cold and snowy... *g*

Sunday Unexpected Goal - I've just doubled the number of NaNoWriMo words I had written at midnight on Friday 16th (7179). Ha - and apparently at this rate I'll be finished by the 1st January 2013... *g*

Sunday Goal Nine - yes! I have achieved Day Nine! 15,000 words - I have now written exactly half of what I'm supposed to have written by this point in the month... *headdesk* (But yeay!)

Sunday Goal Ten - I have achieved Day Ten! Only eight more days to catch up... otherwise known as approximately 13336 words... Today I have written 6412 words so far (18.06pm) and will finish on December 22nd this year! *g*

I love this day - I am still writing, and I have caught up yet another day. I don't have any more goals, the most I though I could ever wish for was to write 15,000 words, and I thought that was a bit bloody unrealistic... Just yeay! I'm currently on 18430 words altogether, 7772 of which have been written today, which is nearly 5 normal NaNo days worth! I have caught up to the end of last Sunday - just a week's worth of writing-catch-up to go! *vbg*

And ending the day on 19,329 words... It would have been nice to carry on to a round 20,000 but I'm at a bit of a sticky bit where the book veers from the possibilities of adult CI5 agents, and I need to mull... plus perhaps it'll give me a bit of a boost to be able to accomplish 20,000 tomorrow in a teabreak or two... *g*

I think today might even deserve another post all of its own in celebration - maybe even with gorgeous lads in pictures... *g*

1895!

byslantedlight: (Doyle kick wheeee (norfolkdumpling))
Well, the NaNoWriMo site and word-counter are down, so I would just like to say here - bloody yeayyyyy because I have today written 1895 new words of Two Go Adventuring Again! Wheee - I've written Pros, after nearly a whole year of not being able to write anything more than the odd random paragraph here or there - I've written 1895 words! I'm not saying they're good words, in fact I've definitely written better, but... they're words. *g*

See, NaNoWriMo just does work for me... *eyes tomorrow hopefully*

Here - in my glee have a snippet from the beginning... )

Oooh - the widget's working again, just as I posted that! *points with far too much excitement*... *g*

Thursday, 1 November 2012 08:35 am
byslantedlight: (BD Content)
I wonder if kids anywhere still say that for the first of the month... I wonder why we said it for the first of the month...? (You had to say it first thing to someone when you met them, before you said anything else...) Anyone else remember that? My brain did one of those odd things just now, and dragged it out of apparently nowhere (aka the deep dark depths of my memories, I guess... *g*)

November!

I've written 21 words for NaNoWriMo.

*g* Up until last night I still didn't know what I was going to write, and with the current faffing about over lj, and dayjob being ridiculously mental (partly cos I was away last week, partly cos there's a new (additional) boss and partly... well, just cos it is) I didn't have a minute yesterday to finally think about it and decide, as planned. Part of me wants to write something original, to take to the Writing Group, another part of me thinks this'll be a good way to get my DialjDecember story written, and Tuesday's part of me wondered if I might split the difference, cheat a bit, and do both.

But I seem to be writing Two Go Adventuring Again. *g*

My plan is that NaNoWriMo has worked for me before, nothing else has this year (even begging everyone's help here, thank you and sorry it didn't, somehow...) so maybe NaNoWriMo will be my last chance to get going again... It might just help that I've given up one of my time-consuming jobs for the month. I hope!

Nice to see a post from [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases this morning, about the new friends page - information missing from the original post includes:
- you can opt out of infinite scrolling on your friends page, and have the same pagination as now
- there will be an option to change background/images and font

Rumours that cropped up via people worriedly trawling various Russian ljs included the idea that paid accounts would be cancelled next year - they won't be, or not exactly. They're apparently going to make one basic account level, and rather than paying for "an account" which gives extra features, you'll be able to pay for individual features themselves. This sounds quite good to me right now - there's lots of features included in my paid account that I've never used and am unlikely to, so I'd be happy to opt out of paying for those ones!

Aaaand... thank you everyone who voted about my name, yestereday! *g* It was neck-and-neck for a while there, but in the end I went for [personal profile] byslantedlight. I did the import journal thing, and added my banner to a fairly randomly chosen style (which insists on imposing my lj name across the banner, but I'm not taking time to muck about with choosing other styles right now). But I'm not going anywhere unless I have to... *g*

Meanwhile, November means NaNoWriMo, a whole month off Job 3, that there's only a week to go until the Pros Writing Holiday - wheeeee! - autumn leaves and grey skies, and cool clean, rain-washed air, and that there will be posts very shortly (no, really... *g*) about the various Pros-y December activities. Yeay! *g*

Aaaaaand... the lads!

Wheeeee - 50,806 words and I still need to finish the actual story... but it's close, it's very close! And it's been fun living in the world of our older lads again, for a whole month...

So, just the finishing and the checking and the editing and the posting to go... *g*

Sorry! Sorry, sorry, sorry - just got to say... gaaaaaaaaah!

Less than 3000 words to write of a fic that is not apparently going to be finished in 50,000 words, although close... Does that even work for NaNoWriMo? I think it does - I think you just have to write the 50k words, right? Not necessarily finish the novel?

Although theoretically, I could perhaps finish the novel before Monday night too, write right? (Also, do you have any idea how often my coding came out <*stroke> then, instead of <*strike>? *sighs* If I can't type, then how can I... type?)

Less than 3000 words to go. I've written that already today, right? *runs to count* Yes! I can write that again? Tonight? Or at least before tomorrow night? Before Monday night?

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

(See, this is why I apologised. I think this has been my only stoopid-out. I think. But eeeep!)

And now my wordcount looks like this!

Which means... look! Half way! Wheeeee!

It's halfway through something fairly dire right now, I think - eep, pacing! It's got to be paced properly! - but wheeee for Words. That's rather alot of words, really... in two weeks. Well, 15 days. It's nearly halfway to a novel amount of words! *g*

And I'm going celebrate by watching new Doctor Who tonight! And I might have a glass of red while I'm at it... *sighs happily*

On the bright side - oh it's fun, it's like spending all day with the lads! Like they're right here! (I probably shouldn't tell the nice doctors that, should I..? *g*)
