Photo-a-Day 1st September

Okay, let's try this another way - I think I'm better if I make a formal commitment, so here I am - formally committing to a photo a day (okay, at least one, cos if I post one then I'll usually post more) throughout September (inspired a bit by just_ann_now's August Photo-a-Days. *g*)

It's Saturday - thank goodness it's Saturday! Mostly. Apart from all the family stuff that must now be dealt with done. *g* So today started off with - the art of breakfast with my sister and brother... ...near some public art, of which there's quite a lot around. It's very cool to come across random public art.

And today ended with a drive with my mum, where we came across hundreds of kangaroos. It's been raining all day - I guess they like it!I didn't see so many kangaroos (or half as many or a tenth as many, or probably even a hundredth as many) wild in the 17 years I spent growing up over here as I can see out in an hour's drive now. I don't know if we're just in the right place now (the edge of a big city...) and were in the wrong place back then (rural countryside!), or if there are other things that have happened to create a safer habitat for them, but - now if I visit Australia I see kangaroos!

Yes, I suspect the city encroached on them to a large extent - but I'm glad they've stuck around. One of the nearby "towns" is called Kangaroo Ground... ah, and I went to try and find out why, and found this:
The village location was settled in 1842, being on hilly but relatively open woodland with good soil. It attracted grazing kangaroos – hence the place name.
So it sounds like they've "always" been there!
