Okay, let's try this another way - I think I'm better if I make a formal commitment, so here I am - formally committing to a photo a day (okay, at least one, cos if I post one then I'll usually post more) throughout September (inspired a bit by [livejournal.com profile] just_ann_now's August Photo-a-Days. *g*)

It's Saturday - thank goodness it's Saturday! Mostly. Apart from all the family stuff that must now be dealt with done. *g* So today started off with - the art of breakfast with my sister and brother...

...near some public art, of which there's quite a lot around. It's very cool to come across random public art.

And today ended with a drive with my mum, where we came across hundreds of kangaroos. It's been raining all day - I guess they like it!

I didn't see so many kangaroos (or half as many or a tenth as many, or probably even a hundredth as many) wild in the 17 years I spent growing up over here as I can see out in an hour's drive now. I don't know if we're just in the right place now (the edge of a big city...) and were in the wrong place back then (rural countryside!), or if there are other things that have happened to create a safer habitat for them, but - now if I visit Australia I see kangaroos!

Oh, I hope it's good times for kangaroos too! Breakfast was good - though big! Apparently going out to breakfast is the thing to do here, so I'm told. So we did. *g*

Is that a pancake ... with ice-cream, strawberries and a nasturtium??? It looks lovely :-) (I haven't eaten nasturtium flowers for soooo long - we used to have them from the back garden sometimes in salads when I was a kid at home :-)))))) Also platypus looks enigmatic and not venomous at all *g*. But wandering kangaroos are just the most wondrous thing to my eyes of course. Like going for a drive here and seeing sheep, except that these (I take it) are just hanging out doing their thing completely wild. (Is that right? Or are they also farmed?). Hope everything is good with your fambly too ::sends best intercontinental salutations::

Those kangaroos were indeed just doing their wild Kangaroo thing... *g* I'm sure they're farmed in some places since there's Kangaroo meat (though I've seen it more in the UK and EU than I have on a menu over here so far) but these are wild.

I think it was actually a pansy on the pancakes - which I've not had before, but ate anyway. Not sure what it tasted of! I've had nasturtiums in salad and liked them - peppery!

Intercontinental salutations back - hope September is good to you and yours!

I love the platypus art. Very unique. And kangaroos! Maybe they're being drawn closer to the city because of drought or lack of food further out. That seems to be why many of the animals over here are doing it. That, and that the city actually encroached on them!

Yes, I suspect the city encroached on them to a large extent - but I'm glad they've stuck around. One of the nearby "towns" is called Kangaroo Ground... ah, and I went to try and find out why, and found this:
The village location was settled in 1842, being on hilly but relatively open woodland with good soil. It attracted grazing kangaroos – hence the place name.
So it sounds like they've "always" been there!

That was breakfast? Wow. *g* Heh, and I love the public art. And wow again for the kangaroos! (And yet another reason why I am seriously considering maybe travelling all the way to Australia.)

Wow! That is a serious number of kangaroos!

More kangaroos! And I really like the critter art, wasn't sure it was a platypus until someone mentioned it. But it's cute.
