So I just re-watched Saturday's Doctor Who ep (and I love it just as much *g*) and I went googling to find out whose song played near the end, and I discovered this instead, which... good news? Scary news? I don't know, but...

New series of Torchwood secured by "international partnership"

...which just... I liked what BBC Cymru Wales was doing with it! I don't want it to suddenly be the commercial arm of the BBC and an American tv channel that can't spell Stars properly... The sentence that really made my heart drop? this new instalment will see storylines widen to include locations in the US and around the world... Just... gargh! Did they not watch The New Professionals? I'm crossing my fingers, I really am, but... eeep!

Anyway, I found the song too... (It's bound to be very uncool, since I still rather like it...) *g*

Huh. Hmm.

...well, international collaboration worked for Rome, so...fingers crossed?

Oh, was Rome first shown on Bravo too? (Apparently that's the thing that Starz did - it made Spartacus: Blood and Sand, which is currently showing on Bravo (which, needless to say, I don't have - but Bravo?) Although apparently John Hannah's in it. And lots of swinging penises amongst the swinging tits, so at least it's equal-opportunities potentially dreadful... Though Charlie Brooker says that around episode five it actually becomes kind of good. So... Oh, I dunno...

*fingers crossed*

Rome was HBO in cahoots with the Beeb, rather than Bravo/Starz/whatever, so maybe a better quality of transatlantic collaboration, but we can hope for the best, no?

I haven't dared go near this new Spartacus thing. I mean, the violence and nudity worked really well for Rome, but mostly comes across as gratuitous in anything else, and if it isn't handled with a delicate touch...well, 'nuff said.

I s'pose we'll just have to wait and see how it goes. And, yes, keep our fingers crossed.

I clearly need to rewatch Rome! *g* Wait - is that what international collaborators add to the Beeb? Nudity and swearing? Cos that's what Brits do? *g* Hmmn...

Need to rewatch because you managed to miss all the violence and nudity first time around? Well, it wasn't all the time - like I said, handled well. And hee, yes apparently...but not 'cause that's what Brits do, but because that's what the HBO (and similar networks) is like. You should watch Deadwood!

Oooh, er. I'm not sure about that. I held my breath reading it until I came to John and Eve Myles, because I wouldn't put it past people to stick an entirely new cast in and leave out its best assets. And Russell will have some input. *Is determined to be hopeful' about this but 8-S.

ETA: and *yes* excellent Dr. Who indeed.

I'm trying to be hopeful, but... you know what's gonna happen, it's gonna be full of American locations and American characters, and... basically, everything that makes it different from the usual pap.

Okay, that's not me being optimistic, is it?

Doctor Who! *hugs DW*

Did they not watch The New Professionals? Heh, I'm guessing not :) Oh, I dunno ... I'm kind of curious to see what RTD makes of dud-duh-duuuh *international locations* as I'm not sure I'd have been too fussed if TW was staying where it was, the whole thing having been blown up and all. Hmmm, can't decide what I think - haha another one for the old epitaph *g*

Oh, I can be curious, it's just... sort of tempered in a rather doom-laden kind of way, you know? I know they blew up Cardiff, but... that's just a really cool challenge, you know? Flying to the US is the easy way out... despite the volcanic ash cloud... *g*

Well, I don't watch Torchwood so I can't really comment on that but I just wanted to drop by and say Oh My Goodness, Dr Who was completely awesome and I cried like a baby through the whole of the second half. Best episode ever! Well, best episode of the season so far although that "which is the dream and which is reality" episode was pretty brilliant too. So yeah, I cried like a small child during this episode. And then I watched a youtube video of Vincent by Don Maclean set over a slideshow of Van Gogh's paintings and cried all over again. Sniffle.

Yes! Wasn't it just the most fab thing of the fabbest things?! I want to read books and books about Van Gogh now (but I can't, cos I have to read about Germany, which is also interesting, but not Van Gogh! I love it when tv has heart, and Vincent and the Doctor was just... oh, full of heart... *g*

Oh, yes, the Doctor Who! I'm so glad I was here to watch that one--it was fabulous. It was about real people, with real, complex emotions. Wonderful stuff.

Bloody Americans, coming over here, taking our telly shows... :P

Hahahaha! I have no problems with the song, itself - I LOVE ATHLETE! (Uncool or not!) Always have done and I didn't know it was them! It's just I didn't think it had a place in the episode - I don't think any 'pop' song does, you know? That stuff is supposed to be timeless and it came off as a bit cheesy, to me.

And probably others like it elsewhere in the press...
