I pinched a book meme from [livejournal.com profile] mescott yesterday, cos I've not done a meme for aaaaages, and cos it looked kind of fun, and then, being me, I had to make it more complicated, and decided I'd make my answers as separate posts so that other people could join in too, if they want. *g*

[livejournal.com profile] etain_antrim gave me "O" to start with - one book that you've read multiple times. Which is a bit tricky for me actually, because as with tv shows and films and fanfic, when I like something I often read it more than once. I could easily say The Larton Chronicles, but perhaps the meme means published books. So I could say Point of Hopes, but then I'd have to say the whole series so far really, and I've already posted happily about them. I have a whole series that I'm not re-reading again just yet, no matter how much I want to, because there are more than 20 books in it. Another one is going to come up under S... *g*Hmmmn!

I mean, re-reading is why I have an entire storage unit that is largely full of books... Umm...

Okay, how about this one:
LOTR_book_covers
Lord of the Rings (not that this is my copy, which is tucked away in my storage - I may have to get it out again soon though, come to think of it. *g*)!

I read The Hobbit at the end of the summer holidays when I was eleven, and I remember having to wait until I got to my new high school to look for Lord of the Rings - and then they didn't want to lend it to me, because they thought I was too young for it - but I convinced them, and they let me, and I loved it... *g*

I think I next re-read it when I was at uni - and I know my now-ex gave me my copy for my birthday one year. He and his brother used to play LotR scrabble - far too detail-oriented for me, I'm afraid! I loved the rush and sweep and magic and adventure of it all rather than all the historical and technical detail. And I still do. *g* I think the last time I re-read it was a year or two (or three...) ago, after I'd watched the films again. I didn't buy a copy when I was in NZ, although I was very tempted to do so... *g* I think I did buy another copy of The Hobbit though, and re-read that too.

They're just such brilliant books, with so many different things to read and imagine and think about - I can't even imagine only reading them once. Even thinking about them is giving me the urge to read them again now... *vbg*

What about you - what's One Book That You Have Read Multiple Times?

Well my favourite books when I was younger used to be the famous five books but as I got older my favourite author is James Herbert so I've re read fluke and the rats and the fog countless times . I know its not one book as such but I love all of his books.

Oh, I loved the Famous Five books, and in fact I'm sort of still re-reading them, if you count writing Two on a Treasure Island, and having 50,000 words of the sequel (Two Go Adventuring Again) written. There was much re-reading for both of them! *g*

I went through a James Herbert phase years ago too, and enjoyed him, but that was a long time ago... not sure I'd re-read them, cos horror isn't a favourite genre of mine, but it may come again as a phase one day!

Two Go Adventuring Again is at 50K?!?!?!??!

That noise you can't hear is me being extremely excited at the prospect, at a pitch too high even for dogs.

Oh I know, but it's been at 50k for two years now, so... and it needs much revision too, I think... But I will end it - in time for Christmas, if not before (which was, um, the plan two years ago...)! I'll try, I promise!

Ooooh, good question. Lessee... Sylvester by Georgette Heyer, The Hobbit, the 'Adventure' books by Enid Blyton, The Harper Hall trilogy by Anne McCaffrey, Howards End is on the Landing by Susan Hill, The Sam Vimes books by Terry Pratchett. To tell the truth I'm not a huge rereader but those I do like to reread from time to time. I reckon there are more but I can't think of them at the moment.

Oh, I don't know Sylvester at all... Isn't it funny that you don't feel like a huge re-reader, but you still have so many that you do re-read - I know I'm a huge re-reader, and I could have listed hundreds of re-reads, and at least dozens that I keep around especially because I know I'll re-read them more than once... The Pern books would be in there somewhere - I was never quite as keen on the Harper ones, though I'm not entirely sure I've read all of them now...

Yes, I agree, it is peculiar. And I must be more of a rereader than I think I am or I wouldn't be keeping so many books that I've already read!

I came to a halt with the Pern books at All the Weyrs of Pern and really need to pick them up again. I love all the ones I've read but have a special affection for the three little YA Harper Hall books. Not sure why.

One book that I've re-read?? One??? *g* I couldn't possibly choose just one! So, randomly…Lord of the Rings, like you--in fact, I used to have that edition in your photos. Many of the Georgette Heyer books. Many of the Patrick O'Brian books. Many of Jane Austen's books--Pride and Prejudice probably the most. The Pern books, yes. *g* Fiction I tend to re-read, non-fiction not so much. Hmm. I can only think of a couple of non-fiction books I've re-read, and those are from childhood. But, oh, so many fiction books! Here's one though, the book I re-read the most times in a row was One Hundred and One Dalmatians. I read it 13 times in a row one Christmas time. *g*

I know, it's an impossible question, isn't it... which I rather suspect may have something do with the whole fandom part of life... *g*

I never even thought of including non-fiction in the meme, I don't think I've re-read a non-fiction book... surely I must have? But I can't think of any...

Heeeee for re-reading One Hundred and One Dalmatians thirteen times in a row! I loved that book too, actually, and have read it more than once... not thirteen though, in a row... *g*

And oh - another Georgette Heyer fan! I remember reading her books when I was a teenager, but not since then - clearly I should give them another go, they seem to be favourites with many people!

I'm a rabid rereader and have many, many books I turn to again when the mood strikes. Jane Austen, especially Pride and Prejudice, Georgette Heyer mysteries, Martha Wells' many wonderful books, the Points series, and too many more to list. Sometimes I feel guilty rereading something old and loved instead of diving into something new, but it is so comforting.

Thanks for the answer!

You're the third person to list Georgette Heyer - I've not read any of her books since I was a teenager, but I feel that I probably should, now!

I know what you mean about sometimes feeling guilty about it too, but... it is comforting... Sometimes you just need to be where everyone knows your name... no, wait... *g* Where you know their names, anyway... *g*

I was OBSESSED with the Lord of the Rings when I read them as a teenager. I just couldn't believe the length, breadth and depth of world created for me, how intricate the histories were, how wonderfully the friendships were portrayed, and how unfathomable the myths and lore were. Me and my best friend Claire were competitive about getting through them all, and I went through a phase of reading them fairly continually for years after them - every time I finished, I started again!

Oh wow - continuous re-reading, that is fairly... dedicated. *g* But I can totally see how and why, and even after all that I bet they stand up to you re-reading them again now. I've recently re-read books after having read them for the first time, and always felt a bit guilty about it - surely I shouldn't need to if I've just read them, and yet... *g*

I'm so feeling the need to re-read Lord of the Rings again now. And rewatch the gorgeous films!

ETA - and actually, also - go to New Zealand... *vbg*

There have been several over the years, from Andre Norton's The Beast Master, to Sharon Kay Penman's Sunne in Splendour. Also, Mary Renault's Fire from Heaven, but not The Persian Boy. Most recently, I reread Ghost On the Throne, by James Romm. Oh, and Stephen King's The Dead Zone. I could go on, but won't. *g*

Heee - I'm like that too, far to many books that I re-read to list in fact, and so many more that I know I will re-read, which is why I keep them in the first place!

I Love your new postings!

There's only one book I can read again and again and again and that's -surprise, surprise - Larton...
*ggg*

The Lord of the Rings with The Hobbit up front. I own two different publishings in german and english and the audiobooks although in german and english, The Hobbit twice, one unabridged and the abridged Version read by MS. I love to listen to them while I sew.

All the books by Dick Francis.

And then some Jane Austens, Alexandre Dumas, Douglas Adams and many, many more.

They're quite fun new postings - and I didn't even have to decide to post them every day, they just happen! *g*

Oh, Larton... I would so have said that one, but I thought people might be sick to death of me saying it... *g* I re-read The Hobbit too, and listen to it - MS's version! I have him reading The Silmarillion too, I must find that to put back into my car now that I have a CD player back!

I don't think I've ever read a Dick Francis book though, and I probably should, just to say that I have... *g*

Lord of The Rings was my best friend while I was in first form at boarding school, and I've re-read it numerous times. Also read The Hobbit years ago but only recently bought my own copy.
You could have used Larton, as it has been published. *g*

Book/s that I've re-read the most, though, would be Mary Stewart's Arthurian trilogy. (not counting The Wicked Day which was bloody awful). The Crystal Caves, The Hollow Hills, and The Last Enchantment are books that I can dive into and immerse myself in. Love them.

Yeah, Larton's been published, but not in a version I've read or want to read - the lads must be the lads, for me! I did try the serial-numbers-filed-off version when I first came across Larton via a recommendation, but it didn't take at all. And for me half the joy is recognising our lads amongst the AU, too! *g*

Ohhhhh for Mary Stewart's trilogy - I adored the Crystal Cave for years when I read it, and I have re-read them, but not for a long, long time. I must again! Actually The Mists of Avalon was another very favourite re-read that I must look out again too! They'll all be in my storage somewhere, that's the only problem - somewhere... Thanks for the reminder... *g*
