Hurrah - ProsWatch! And oh, The Gun - reviled by almost everyone, let's see what it's all about...

Ooooh - and there is a gun... *g*

Oh, and I adore early-morning lads, Bodie a bit grumpy, Doyle needing to be dropped off at his car - where's he spent the night then? *g* Bodie knowing where Doyle's car is better than Doyle does, though and... oh, hee - Doyle loving Bodie's "Shall I put out an APB for it?"... *g*

And then Doyle handing over the RT, teasing Bodie and... just... they've so spent a completely fab night together and are just... together here! Plus don't you just love the way their hands slide together when Bodie takes the RT from Doyle? *g*

Oh, trouble at the caf... But heeeee for the oldie snatching a chance and grabbing cash with his walking stick!

Doyle asleep in the car on the way to Inger - he really can sleep anywhere... *g*

Bodie looking to Doyle as he suggests that they go and find Paul...

"You're this one's partner aren't you?" asks Inger - oh, and look at the way the lads are looking at each other... *hugs them*

Bodie all stirring the lads in the caf... he is grumpy! Needs his sleep perhaps, poor pet... *g*

Inger all worried, Doyle all amiable but wondering whether Inger knows much about addicts...

And oh, bad things on the boat... and then at the Ace High Club - very slimy bearded-bloke! Young first-time bloke always reminds me of Wicksy... slightly posher accent, mind... *g* He's very pleased with that gun now, mind... had a taste of power... Oh, and compare him the posh one gone wrong, with those four lads sitting in the caf, the ones Bodie gave aggro - bit of social commentary there d'you think?

Ah, and here's the other poor little rich boys...

Hee - stagger-y morning Bodie! All wrapped up and cosy... Whatever time/day is this anyway? The lads were up desperately early - or else had just finished "the graveyard shift" though I still think they look like they've been enjoying themselves... *g* Bodie's had a quick kip at Inger's? And she's getting ready for school... He's grumpy - actually he's kind of grumpy all through this ep - and he's not keen on that carrot juice he's just made! Hmmn - "Tell Doyle I'll be there in ten"...

(sorry, that second one there was just a gratuitous Bodie-bum-shot... *g*)

Paul is dead, and Bodie's giving Inger some tough love about it... But he gives her a hug and a strong chest, and a good hold afterwards... I think he knows she's tough and doesn't want to be told sympathetic rubbish...

Doyle's with Cowley - all professional, but more importantly his hair's properly curly still... *g* Cowley very blase about the way CI5 search property, apparently - "Did we do this?"!

Back to the baddie and the poor little rich kids... Love the background noise, the birds singing - such a lovely English summer's day... to be killing your best mate with the Gun...

Off to school with Inger and Bodie - and Cowley this time. The state of Bodie's face! Oh, what time's that clock chiming? Eight o'clock... So - this has all happened so far in maybe three hours?!

Doyle at the hospital, with Paul's girlfriend... She's not doing very well... Doyle making jokes about MI5... *g* Eek - Doyle wants to give Patricia any baby! He's forgotten that babies of heroin addicts might be born addicted, perhaps? You'd think he'd know, our drugs expert...

Inger being alot more touch-y feel-y than teachers are allowed to be now...

Hee - love the rockstar - "It's you older fans who've seen me through the bad times..!" *g* Look at Doyle's walk down the hospital corridor... is it because he's got his hands in his pockets? Or is it just him being him?! *g*

Ah, people who think money solves everything... Our lads aren't impressed... and they turn to each other in incredulity...

Hee - "I thought you older fellows were fans of his" Bodie says in the car! Bodie's being very... sonorous in this one actually - very deep voiced and serious...

Gosh, look at CI5 hq these days - getting more impressive day by day isn't it - all shiny and glossy and all!

Heeee - Bodie teasing Doyle about the lost car...

And heeee - "I think his mother was a witch!" *vbg* Ooh, Doyle very defensive about harassing the Buchanan girl - and unapologetic about wanting to show her the wrong baby for expediency's sake! "It's all crap!" *g*

The lads arriving with a smile to find Tony's been snatched... Bodie wanting to seal off half of London, Doyle all of it... with a smile again... Oh, and canon for Doyle's leg being somewhere on the dashboard - it's got to be with his thigh that high! (ooh er, missus...)

Holster alert! Doyle in holster - and forearms... *g*...

Bodie looking quite young with short hair like that...

Cowley's all worried - he knows that Tony's the key... They're doing alot of sitting around for agents in a panic, mind you!

Tony has suddenly remembered that he's Spanish... is he actually being clever so that he can pretend he doesn't understand Wicksy?

Ha - Bodie knows about mules... Oh, but Doyle is ready to jump to action - and he's cross when Cowley pulls him back...

Ah no, apparently Tony is not clever like that...

Doyle understanding the computers...

...sitting back down again...Aha - and our lads are off together again! Bodie's sleeves are done up this time, but... rather straining at the seams - is that why he usually wears them undone? Is it all about his forearms?! *g*

A chase! The lads together in a chase - oh, and a fight... A very punch-y fight this one - not so much of the usual martial arts...

Cowley being threatening again... And the lads have got somewhere to go now - hand on gun, Doyle enters... Bodie right behind him...

...nothing except a mess... Oh, an "'ey" from Doyle - and a clue from the kid...

Back to school - Bodie greeting Inger's CI5 agent by name... Bodie being all... again, overly-serious suddenly? Doyle's social conscience rubbing off on him? Love that he automatically says "since you met Doyle and I" rather than taking all the credit for Inger feeling as though things might work out...

Doyle and Cowley... sitting around in front of a computer again... It's just so the wrong place to see Doyle, somehow! He should be out on the streets, in action...

Bodie in the car on the RT... Doyle in his car - found it, clearly, unless this is another one! "Operation Hamper"?!

Ah, and Inger has found The Gun... And Roy has met a bad man... Not really sure why Tony didn't misdirect Wicksy there at the end... Luckily Inger is a fair old shot...

And here's CI5 striding very purposefully into...

... oh, and Doyle leaps over the wall, finds Tony and says "Get a medic, quick!" - there's canon for "medic", then! *g* Bodie's inside and dealing with the other baddies very efficiently, Doyle as well... and slimy bloke's retreat is cut off by Cowley...

Hee - "That's our new typist" says Bodie about Doyle... Stands close to Doyle though, for all that he's come in with his arm around Inger - there's nudging and there's standing very close to indeed... *g*

And off they go, jumping to Cowley's every command... But not too unhappy about it really... *g*

Well, the magic isn't quite there, and Bodie's very grumpy, and okay, so it's not the most fast-paced of eps in many ways, and there's far too much time spent on Inger and Wicksy and Tony and all the other characters, but... it's not that bad... I'd watch it over Close Quarters any day, cos our lads are together in this one! So there. And goodnight. *g*

One of the worst things about this ep is the soppy music in that awful scene at the hospital showing Poor Little Rich Kid with his rockstar dad... makes me cringe.
And I don't really understand how the 'mules' bringing the drugs in linked to Wicksy throwing the gun away - surely it's too much of a coincidence that the boys who find the gun go to the very school where parents are being forced to smuggle drugs in for Wicksy's boss? It's all very odd.
I also boggle a bit at Doyle - ex-Drugs Squad - not knowing about addicts birthing addicted babies, although his... erm... pragmatic (to say the least) attitude to getting the Buchanan girl to talk strikes me as very drugs Squad-y, somehow. All very weary, practical, seen-it-done-it sort of thing.
But there are some nice scenes with the lads, who are beautifully together until Bodie has to go with Inger and gets all grumpy about it, and Bodie in a dressing gown is always worth seeing! So on that front alone it beats Close Quarters. And Inger is a much better girlfriend for Bodie than Gabrielle Drake!
That opening scene... they have so spent the night together! Out on the tiles, I reckon, and went home together in Bodie's car! *bg*

Hee - I've never even thought about the music playing in the hospital, I guess I just accept that as typical emotional seventies/eighties... erm... crap... *g*

Erm... isn't it that Wicksy's boss is using Wicksy and Paul because they were at that school and know the characters... I guess I tend to assume that they're in a particular area of London because of that (though obviously I could be way wrong realistically - a particular made up area of London *g*) which would mean that it was *likely* to be kids from the school... and it turns out that Jerry Lee's dad wasn't involved, so...

My excuse for Doyle's drug thingie is that he's not been doing it for a while, and so might have forgotten something "social" like that...

I had second-thoughts about the opening scene as I was typing up the commentary - I think I through it in somewhere, but... I think they've maybe been on duty all night, cos Doyle says "this is why they call it the graveyard shift" but I reckon they've been all quiet and themselves, so that they've maybe just *been themselves* and then Bodie gets all grumpy cos instead of finally going home to bed, they have to keep working... *g* Or is that just me sort of writing fic in my head? *g*

I do like parts of The Gun very much--as you pointed out.The plot, though, I find less than compelling. *g* Still, I love that early morning stuff, and the way Inger has heard about Doyle. And the looks between the lads. ::happy sigh::

I've put off watching this ep because everybody says it's so bad, but in fact I enjoyed it quite a bit. For one thing, Inger's not the usual shrieking twit - I love the scene where she's setting up the Nazi play, and her last line is priceless: "Well, get on. If it were easy everybody would be doing it." Though now I have a terrible picture in my head of Bodie in his rugby outfit getting six of the best. *BG*

Um, is Bodie looking a bit well-padded in this episode?

In the caf scene, Doyle looks *so* much like Judge Deed.

Love that scene of Cowley leading his posse on the attack. And the way he just *looks* at beardy bad guy, and he immediately gives up.

I'd say, not in my top ten, but not in the bottom either.

Yeah - I don't think it's brilliant, or perhaps even good, but I think there are definitely worse... and I actually do remember this one more than I do, say Kickback, which I can never picture through the title!

I like Inger too - and her relationship with Bodie. Very honest, very practical... Not sure about Bodie looking well-padded though, I don't think I notice that... He maybe looks bulked up a little, but I'd've thought muscle rather than padding... maybe... *g*

Must so go and look for JJD in the caf scene! *vbg*

I haven't had time today to watch, but am reading the reviews anyhow.
Love the caps of the start! Beautiful hands in the first one, shaving in the second one, and then "sleeping Doyle"! I wonder if Bodie's driving was a bit calmer that day, or if Ray is just used to it and can sleep anyway.

Then, in the last couple of pics, I wonder if LC is standing on a box, or something. He looks almost a half a head taller than Doyle, and normally the height difference is minimal. Maybe they wanted the kid to look shorter in comparison to Bodie?

Will watch the episode tomorrow.

Hee - about 10 seconds after that shot of Doyle asleep Bodie takes a corner at such speed that Doyle is totally woken up and thrown across the car! He's all wide-eyed and joking about taking a taxi... *g*

I wondered about that last scene too! Actually I think it's that Doyle is sort of leaning/sitting on the desk behind him, cos his knees are fairly bent... *g*

Shall look forward to seeing what you think of it!

I've watched it now and yeah, Bodie is definitely not driving calmly to promote sleeping!
It was tough to stay away from the FF button, and a few times I was weak and did use it. Felt a bit like Doyle, when he had his little temper tantrum about not wanting to wait around any longer.

And man, is Bodie in a black mood through most of this! Maybe LC was annoyed that the show hadn't been canceled after all?

Not enough of the Lads for my liking, but what there was of them was very good. I liked Inger too. She didn't seem like a steady girlfriend of Bodie's, more like an old friend.

That computer room is something isn't it. All glass and green paint.

Thanks for this great review and the piccies. :)

The bits with the lads are magic as always - the thread of Doyle and his car is lovely. Ahd I do like Inger, about the only girlfriend they wrote for Bodie that I do. I like the way that it's 'matey' more than anything else between them, there's no smooth patter from Bodie, no turning on of the charm when he's with her.
But it' just a very tired looking episode isn't it?? Thanks for the rundown, as usual you got the reasons down why we all sit through it.*g*

You know, I didn't mind Jennifer Black either actually - I thought she had the same strength of character as Inger in alot of ways. Neither of them let him push them around, although to be fair JB was coping with a very weird-Bodie-psychology moment, so... *g*

Hmmn - not sure if it feels tired to me, or if there's something else there... Bodie seems really grumpy throughout, and Doyle a little ragged in some places... Maybe that is just down to their long night working/playing/thingie-ing though... *g*

Looking forward to reading yours!

Much fastforwarding for tihs episode, but the lad bits were lovely (as were most of the Inger bits, hurrah for strong female characters!)... and you highlighted all of 'em, so yay!

And heeee, forearm alerts! [livejournal.com profile] shooting2kill's post has made us more conscious of them now, hasn't it? I was squeeing away a little too when I saw Doyle's arm. Didn't spot the Bodie one though! *g*

Thank you! I do like a nice forearm........

You've got some great images here and some interesting observations. I must admit it's never been an episode I liked very much partly because of the dire acting from the two boys, especially the one who's in it a lot so you can't really ignore him, and I never took to Inger much either, I'm afraid, something about her cried out 'bossy' to me, even though I can't think of an example, or maybe it's just the way she seemed to treat Bodie as if he was a bit of an idiot (*please* resist the temptation to respond to that last bit....) Something else which made me think - the bit where Doyle tries to fob a different baby onto the girl (and your bit about the heroin addiction was good) I think if Bodie had made that suggestion there would be loads of fingers accusing him of being completely without morals but Doyle seems to have gotten away with it.

Er....it's lovely to see you here and I hate to rub this in, but shouldn't you be at college?

*runs desperately to check time and date...*

No! Phew! I shouldn't be... *g* The school I'm at has a week off curriculum this week, so I stayed home to finish my first assignment and apply for jobs and things instead... First assignment finished, and I've, um, looked at the jobs pages... *g*

I suppose Inger is a bit bossy - but I think Bodie quite likes that really... I like him far better with Inger and Jennifer Black - oh, and maybe Jane of the tennis match! - than with any of the girls who seem to just wrap themselves obediently around him... *g*

I'm not sure Doyle got away with it actually - I think it definitely shows the greyness of his morals, but then I've always thought he had that, so it's not a big thing to me. And I think Bodie's got more morals than some people try to claim as well, actually - look at his treatment of Frances Cottingham, and his look of horror here in The Gun at the idea that the rockstar could buy his son's love... I think both lads are very grey in the morals field - I mean, they couldn't be in CI5 if they didn't have that, because they are prepared to kill and maim and smash up people's houses on a single word from their boss - or there own rush of temper. But likewise I don't think they're completely immoral either... Maybe Doyle says things out loud more often - but that doesn't mean he acts that way. And maybe Bodie doesn't want to admit to the bad things sometimes (was it in "Need to Know" where he sort of turned away, looking uncomfortable, when Doyle questioned the morals of their role in gassing their own "side", the police officers?) but he didn't accept without rebellion the for-the-good-of-the-masses men from Blind Run either...

If anything - and I've said this before - I find Doyle the darker of the two, because he can suggest something like that, while at the same time seeming to want to act with conscience... as if he's a bit more out of control than Bodie, not sure where his lines are, which to me makes him just a tad more dangerous than someone who knows exactly where their lines are and why, as Bodie often seems to...

And now - I should be getting ready to go out and tutor a new student, so I'll be back in a few hours! *g*

I'm very relieved to know that you're not bunking off (like I used to do *all* the time so I've got a nose for it...).

I agree with you about the murkiness of their morals but I think I was referring more to doyle getting away with it in terms of the various discussions in fandom over the years about things like that e.g. idealist vs. pragmatist etc. and I don't think I can recall anyone citing the baby incident as an example of Doyle acting pragmatically, irresponsibly or immorally. It's a good point and, as I say, one which I've never thought of before.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I think the very fact that we see that Doyle can act without control - can lose it - in front of us, Bodie, Cowley, everyone, leads me to think that in some ways he's less of a threat than he at first seems *because* it's there in front of us, it's on the surface and we know what's going on inside and out, whereas I think Bodie's very different......steel-like in that he rarely loses his temper, expressionless, more controlled and contained and yet....his mask hides what he can feel for the Frances Cottinghams of the world etc. I think the scene which says it all for me is when Doyle hits the Coogan brother...while he's lashing out in obvious temper I still finds it's Bodie's he did warn you which sends shivers down my spine - not only shivers of fear but excitement too, of wondering who is this person? Is he angry because he's a natural thug or because he can't stand seeing his best mate assaulted? It's that depth which, as I say, is both threatening and exciting. With Doyle, I feel that what you see is what there is. Yes, he loses his temper but so do children and neither frighten me, but quiet, controlled menace does.

It's funny, they are together alot more in this ep than in some of them, but there's something odd going on, cos they don't always seem properly together, if you know what I mean? They have their moments, but Bodie's quite grumpy through most of it... though maybe he's just tired, the poor poppet! *g*

I was there at 21.00 BST, having the advantage of not having seen the ep. before and wondering what all the unenthusiasm was about. Yes, I see now. Some outstanding moments - Doyle with his electric razor is always a treat (does he keep it in Bodie's glovebox?) When does poor Bodie get a shave? Does Inger helpfully keep a razor for visiting men who come for breakfast? she is extremely well-organized after all.

And the physical contact with pupils, ahem, I'm sure that would be out of the question nowadays.

Thanks for the highlights!
