Look what happens when I have two days off work... honestly! Let's catch up with Thursday and Friday's happy-making things.

Thursday
At one end of the day, another breakfast outside, under the sound of songbirds, and my landlords colourful flower bed.
2020-04-09 01Breakfast 2020-04-09 02Breakfast

And then at the other end of the day, wondering if I could catch the not-quite-perfectly-full-pink-supermoon, going out at 10pm when it was supposed to rise, realising there were hills in the way, and waiting... and waiting... and there it was.
Then walking back the other way, to see Venus shining so brightly above the houses...

Today I finished the last piece of work I had, which was nice and straightforward (which was a happy thing). It would be slightly happier if I had work lined up for after Easter, but we'll just see how that goes. For the moment the sun has been shining and warm, and all is locally well.

Wander down the garden, which is a general sea of forget-me-nots.

I finished work and went out shopping for essentials, for me and landlords. Very odd shopping during covid-19, isn't it. Most people doing the oops, sorry thing if you accidentally round a corner and end up near-ish them, a few people completely oblivious to the fact that you were waiting patiently for your go at the cheese after chappy was done, and a few shopping assistants who don't quite know that anything has changed in the world. Is it better now that we're more aware of each other? Hmmn...

Anyway, this was the road home - I took advantage of empty roads and my phone camera, cos I'm not likely to be out again soon...

Foodsaving again tonight, and tons of food, so it made me happy to be able to see it to good homes. Without work tomorrow I can actually get the other volunteers organised to do collect-and-drop-offs too, so I can have some nights off again. *g* Although if I'm not doing anything else, then it's nice to feel useful... Anyway, finished that, had something that I saved for dinner, and decided to crash in front of catch-up tv. His Dark Materials, which I missed at Christmas.

And now - bed! Oh no - post the Prosfic review I started while dinner was cooking, then bed... *g*

How're you doing?

Monday just seems to keep coming around... and today it blew in with warmth, and a kind of muggy feel, which normally I wouldn't like at all, but which made a nice change from the cold of winter today! also it had rained overnight (and dripped a bit today too), which was actually something we've needed for a few weeks! Doesn't feel right to say it after endless wet days (it felt like) over winter, but there you go! Today was a gloriously spring day, though...

I was out food saving again tonight, but because it was a yet again situation where the carer who'd stepped in was called away and couldn't do it, and I'd filled everyone I knew easily's freezers over the last week, I sent out a call for anyone on the village support group who might want food - and had half a dozen replies from people who said they'd be glad of a bit extra, including one guy who'd been living on food bank deliveries (via our village group) for ages. So I was very happy to be able to do something useful there too. It was dark by the time I got back, but the moon was full and it was a gorgeous night. *g*

Also, my current awkward work assignment is almost finished (last day tomorrow) and although I don't have anything else lined up yet (which is always very gulp when they leave it late to send), I'm very happy to be nearly done with this one!

Gardening again! Topping up my plot with the compost/soil that I cleared up last weekend, and managing to bolster up the badly decaying wooden sides with whatever came to hand...

...and the moon, gorgeous and bright.

Sunday
In the garden again. It's a bit different, I promise - still more compost, and that long planter's got salad leaves planted now, and there's some potatoes down the other end. Mostly all the broken glass is removed from between the greenhouses, smashed even smaller, and is safely stored by the bins now. Which meant that I could get to the water butts, to water the seeds I planted! Such a beautiful day today - even the quite-strong wind felt balmy and warm - bliss!

My body is rebelling - my wrist is much better, but I must have slept strangely because I not only have a cricked neck, but a sore shoulder/back. Ack! So exercise much needed today, and here's what I saw on the way around - happy spring colours, and a field full of bunnies, including some very brave young ones only just over the wall from the road!

My next bedtime Pros-read is Forever True by Elizabeth Holden - another perennial favourite!
byslantedlight: (Default)
Oh, it's weird times, isn't it... Don't know about you, but I'm finding it fairly hard to focus on any one thing. I have the Lads in Lockdown half in mind - I know all sorts that are going to happen, but my brain's still chuntering along the next few hours after Doyle's... well, that would be telling. *g* But I'm determined my brain will re-focus and get there. *g* I'm slightly distracted by having done something to my wrist - not sure why, but it's a bit swollen and sore, even just lying in cushioned comfort in bed at night - and by my laptop mouse playing up a bit too - gargh! Still, I'm relatively comfortable here at home, my volunteer patch seems to be sorted, and even if the wind was cold today, and the clouds were out, there was also still sunshine.

The clocks went forward here today. On the one hand we lost an hour, on the other hand - light, glorious light in the evenings (which is when I tend to be most awake...)

My goal today was to plant some seeds in the greenhouse that Landlord won't be using this season, but in the end I kept being interrupted, and only got as far as clearing my veggie bed. Still, that's a happy thing to start with.
2020-03-29 01VegPlotBefore 2020-03-29 02VegPlotAfter
On the bright side, Landlord says he's not planning to do any more gardening than he can near the house, so I've probably got two greenhouses to myself, as well as his three-times-the-size veggie bed outside. Let's see what I can do... I have work tomorrow, and half a day on Tuesday at the moment - hopefully I can do some gardening around that.

My Christmas cactus made me happy today - she's also an Easter cactus (which she has been before, so I did wonder... *g*

And the goblin village was back again tonight at sunset - look at this amazing goblin cathedral... *g*
2020-03-29 04GoblinCathedral
Ooh, I'm seeing wolfs-head windows, too... *g*

Otherwise, I sunk into watching Bridget Jones' Baby this evening, and when I've got time I'll catch up with the second ep of McDonald and Dodds. But last night - last night I watched a random Pros ep, which turned out to be - Involvement. I so love that moment at the end where Bodie goes after Doyle, Doyle shrugs him off, and then is the one who puts his arm around Bodie at the end... *sigh*

Speaking of *sigh* - I'm rereading Tangled Web by Jack Reuben Darcy, which I adore - my heart for them... *g* Anyone else reading Pros fic? Or watching eps?

Take care, my lj-friends - stay at home, wash your hands, and keep half an eye on the sunshine, because it will always be out there for us.

It was actually warm enough to sit outside (and obviously read *g*) for lunch, and that I had a companion for lunch made me happy too. *g* I actually got so warm sitting in the sun that I had to go inside for a bit! Tried to work out there for a while too, but it's really too bright for my screen... But such a gorgeous day!

2020-02-17 02NightIt's been a funny couple of days again - and I must admit I was struggling yesterday to find happies, because it was one of those days where everything I touched seemed to look at me and go huh, and then break... *headdesk* Message from S, and the possible-house turns out to be caught up in some legal thing that might mean they have to sell it! But if it doesn't, then they're still interesting in letting it out... (*headdesk 1*) I decided to do some family tree-ing, and then spent all day trying to work out which software I was going to go with - finally chose, bought it, and managed to cock it up so I spent more time untangling what I did! (*headdesk 2*) Had an email about the recipe box I bought last week (for inspiration cooking) telling me not to eat the peanuts part of it... which I'd eaten the day before... (*headdesk 3*) Definitely too wet and windy to play at detectorist-ing! But I got all enthusiastic and bought a SheWee online to get ready for the kind of rally that's only/mostly blokes - and then asked about it in the women's detecting group, and people said they found it too fiddly... (*headdesk 4*) The electric socket for the heater and telly has gone kaput again - the switch wouldn't rock off again! (*headdesk* 5) Spent ages trying to get my scanner/various OCR softwares to work efficiently to help with the UK Paper Circuit stories that are only on paper - and didn't manage it at all (*headdesk 6*)

But - more happily, rain or not, it's nearly spring! The evenings are starting to stretch out, and there's snowdrops and daffodils out! I took the pic below at S's place, when I nipped over for a coffee today, which was a nice thing. *g* I managed to almost-dry some laundry outside today, before it started to get rained on. And then when I went out into the garden this evening, there were stars out - Orion and the Big Dipper, and Cassaeopeia, and the Pleides, all shining bright.

Plus I went through Folder #2 of the UK Paper Circuit, so that's the next one to post about. *g* And re-watched Series One of The Durrells, which always helps with the cheering-up and being happy. *g*

Also:
- reading Pros fic from the UK Paper Circuit Library (see post over at CI5hq)
- finishing work on time to go to creative writing, and actually doing some writing. *g*
- going to bed before 2am. Almost before 1am, but not quite. *g*
- family tree stuff!
byslantedlight: (Slanted springblossom)
So much for going excavating this weekend - I couldn't make contact in the end, and then by Friday I had what felt like a niggly cold (desperately hoping it wasn't that tooth being infected or anything horrid like that), and then Friday was upon me and I'd not made plans... so I'm at home being lazy/trying to get the Dairy more livable. It still feels more like a place I'm keeping my stuff for a while than home (whereas my lovely Annexe did feel like my home, I guess cos I chose it), but I keep hoping that'll change if I can sort it out better and start concentrating on other things!

Anyway, I found myself taking some things that couldn't be made to fit here to the local Emmaus, and heading back to Ikea to find stuff that did (which felt so wrong...) and in between I stopped at this Country Park, and had a little wander with my camera.

I walked down beside Glebe Lake...

It all felt very Easter, and very spring, although this church on the hill felt somewhat sinister, somehow!

I don't seem to have a spring icon - very remiss of me, because it's definitely spring. Today was a going-out-and-exploring day, and so I headed for my new most-local National Trust place - Stowe, which is about half an hour away. It was a not-sure day, all grey clouds with flashes of blue, and not cold but looking as if it should be...

The visitor centre is actually beside what was once basically the pub that catered for people going to visit Stowe's landscaped gardens - New Inn is all its called, but in fact they've done a lovely job of setting the rooms up just as I imagine they might have been. Look - Doyle left his jacket slung over the chairback while he had dinner with Bodie... *g*

I thought today's colours were going to be pink and white, because wherever I turned on the hacktrack, there was pink and white - but actually, here's frothy white, buttercup yellow and clover purple, and then a blue so bright that I thought someone had dropped something plastic...

Still a day behind... Just went for a walk around the hack track yesterday - it's a river of cow parsley, the fields scattered with buttercups and dandelions, lovely! *g* It was also supposed to rain all day yesterday, but instead was the most gorgeous summer's day.

Midnight lambing!

Tuesday, 31 March 2015 01:37 am
byslantedlight: (Magic-DeepBlueNight(OhSweetWitchery))
Remember these guys, born just yesterday?
Well I was just about to finish up on my laptop and go to bed a bit early, listening to the wind get up a bit higher and being very very sleepy, when I heard clattering and clunking outside in the bit of shed-building that's almost attached to my bit and where Mrs Sheep and her two babes are currently ensconced. Oooh I thought, I wonder if something's gone over... hope the sheeps are okay... And I thought I'd better go and check, cos I'm a good girl. *g* It wasn't the wind though, it was Landlord, setting up a second sheep pen, because - on the night we're forecast rain and gales - the second of their four sheep had just decided to have her lamb, and it was already looking a bit peaky and mum was just being hungry not paying much attention, and do you need a hand with anything? says I? If you wouldn't mind helping us get them in, says Landlord, We need all the help we can get...

So off we tromped to the field in the dark, and picked up the lamb, and encouraged mumma along with sheep nuts and a good hold on her, and some encouraging shoves behind - she didn't want to come - and eventually managed to get them both indoors... and then she didn't seem at all interested in him... ... ...and we wondered whether to get the other two sheep in, just in case they chose the same lousy night... and we watched to see if mumma had another one coming, and whether lamb would start to feed, and it didn't, and the recommendations were after two hours give them a feed with a tube, and the time came and went, and Landlord decided to go for it, and it's not all dip-your-finger-in-milk-and-let-it-suckle, it's tube-down-the-throat-to-the-stomach stuff, which he took really well, and then we watched to see if he perked up... and then decided to get the other two sheepses into Landlord's garden at least, so they'd be closer anyway if they needed moving to the lambing shed, and... phew! And then mumma delivered her placenta, and Landlord was a goodun and cleaned it up for her (though she got a few nibbles in before that...)

Luckily the weather's held - it's been really windy, but it's almost balmy with it, not cold. Only - you see the trio of dots up there? That's where I suddenly heard lots of loud bleating from the lambing shed as I was typing this, and decided (again) that I'd better go check, and I was just peering in and trying to work out what was wrong, and realising that my back was getting really wet now cos the rain had come, when landlord appeared through the window on the other side, and realised what the problem was. The lamb I was looking at wasn't lamb, it was one of the day-old cousins who'd somehow got through from his pen to the new pen... So he rescued him, and here I am again, having even made up a hot water bottle after all, cos brrrr.

Phew! Mind you, now I feel like I live in Somerset... *g*
byslantedlight: (Slanted spring)
The rain stopped around lunchtime, so I went for a walk in the blustery wind after all, and look what I found - a scattering of blossom, then a little crop of crocuses...
2015-03-29 04Blossom 2015-03-29 05Crocuses

...and then little sproutings of primroses and wild violets too!
2015-03-29 06PrimrosesViolets
But even more spring-like? The reason I went out in the first place - Landlady texted me to say one of their sheep had dropped two wee lambs, if I wanted to come and see... *g*
2015-03-29 03Lambs
Though I'm not sure this year's first day of British Summer Time was the very kindest weather for them to end up in! They're not even two hours old in this pic - awwww... *g*
byslantedlight: (Magic-DeepBlueNight(OhSweetWitchery))
Well I was sort of in an office, and worked hard actually - all that thinking about Rasch graphs, and Wright Maps and... quite brain-exploding stuff it was... and now of course there's the coursework about it - eeep! We finished early though, and I didn't get a headache today, and then I ended up deciding not to trog around London when I had no particular plans and did have luggage, so I walked over the river (well, on the bridge, not actually... *g*) and caught the train and was home in time for archery, but then I was quite tired and didn't go after all. I would have had to rush, and miss dinner, and... so no.

But London was lovely and London. Here's the view out my hotel window, and a London-y contre-jour (thanks [livejournal.com profile] gvenanne!) photo...

Spring morning magic

byslantedlight: (MagicWorld-WizardMoon (avalonrain))
2014-02-26 05.53.38-2

Hmmn, I seem to have lost the ability to upload pictures from my device to LJ - is that just me, or just cos I'm on a device at the moment, I wonder... There does seem to be a handy way to do it from Dropbox now, but no control over size etc from this end, so I'm sorry if the pic has turned out huge in your flist... Let me know if it mucks anything up and I'll delete or cut or summat. (Actually it turned out to be huge, so I mucked about with phone and this and drop box and finally managed to sort it...)

But that wasn't what I meant to say this gorgeous spring morning! The sky is blue here, the sun is all new-risen and golden, and when I went out first thing (the trouble with going to bed early is that I'm awake before 6am) there was the crescent moon and Venus just above it - so very beautiful and totally worth being up at that time! Apparently I'm not the only person to think so, but I haven't figured out how to paste from the clipboard on this thing yet...

"This thing" being an Advent Tetra Note 7, which has good reviews for speed, which I liked for something just about in my budget - because my laptop is in the repair shop - waaah! Worst of all it's playing havoc with my work, when I've only just had 4 days off work, but also I miss its lovely keyboard and screen! This tablet is actually for tutoring, so I'm practising now...

Apart from all that though, happy spring! There's even a touch of frost out there this morning - one of my favourite weathers!
byslantedlight: (Sukhoi Su26 Road Angel)
...I seem to be home in England, in Cambs. - in fact I seem to be in exactly the same place I left three months ago (but with new squidgy carpets and fresh paint in my old room *g*) because my landlady didn't find another tenant - and there's the most gorgeous chill in the air... Sorry, I expect everyone here's rather tired of it by now, but I did miss winter here, compared to 41C and half a state on fire... Hello northern hemisphere! And yet again it felt like I was on the right side of the world again, when I got back. So... there. *g*

I know I barely managed to post when I was away, but... here's England!
