Photo-a-Day 15th September - Saturday
Tuesday, 18 September 2018 08:12 pmI'm so behind... if I can just catch up then maybe I can post from my phone! My trouble is I can never decide on just one picture. I'll try harder - but today, have four. *g*
Went to Ballarat with mum for a bit of a drive and some family stuff, and the skies threatened and threatened and threatened - and opened up with a vengeance when we got there! So we had a bakery-lunch by Lake Wendoree, and watched the waves ont he water and the raindrops on the windscreen.

One guy got back from canoeing just as it started to be wild and windy, to the point that he had to abandon his attempt to lash the canoe back onto his roofrack, and wait until it had died down a bit. Even the swans decided to abandon the water for a while! *g*

Thursday, 13 September 2018 02:58 amI managed a brief walk yesterday, to a small bush reserve just down the road (in the middle of the city)
I was rather fascinated by these restrictions/instructions all together!
Loved this tree.

Spring flowers - the white ones turned out to be some kind of wild garlic (at least the leaves smelled faintly like garlic).

The yellow bells are tiny...
I stopped by the pond and just listened for a while. There were birds, and the wind shusshing through gum trees, and the very occasional sounds of a city...
...it was lovely and peaceful! (If you'd like to hear it, you can go here - well, this is just the other side of the path I stood on when I made that recording. And down a little bit. *g*)
A real Australian tree or two. *g*

Sunday, 9 September 2018 11:08 amI got my energy back! I was able to go to the fair! Hooray! *g*
It started with a parade (these guys are from my nephew's primary school, although he was marching with his soccer team instead). They're all bees! How cute is that! *g*
Then there was fair food. Mini pancakes, with butter and lemon and maple syrup!

Fairy floss was never blue in my day - but it seemed like the only fresh fairy floss around, so we tried it. It actually tasted of something (though not fairy floss like I remember) and it melted in your mouth, and it turned you entirely blue. Okay, it might just have felt like entirely, but I kept wanting to check my face for blue-ness for hours after. *g*
Traditional fair events - the woodchopping competition, and pole-vaulting!!

The Australian champion wood chopper was there later in the day, and having given the others a 28 second lead, he still beat everyone!
We had a break for a few hours (well, I took mum out for a drive into the hills, cos it was a gorgeous day), and then we went for an Indian and came back in time to see the torchlight parade (the emergency services) and then the fireworks!

So all in all, it was rather a nice day to make up for Friday's rough one!

Photo-a-Day 7th September - Friday
Friday, 7 September 2018 09:56 pmI have done nothing today but ache and read and sleep and eat - what a waste of a day... But I did remember to take a photo or two...

Honey - and spiced ginger beer, which I only hope makes it to the shops back home, because it's delicious, and even managed to cheer me up a bit with my achey-bones cold...
I'm supposed to be going to a local fair tomorrow, with my brother and his family, and wee nephew is in the parade with his soccer team, and I want to go! So I'm going to bed early again, to see if I can sleep the thing out of my bones... Wish me luck!

Friday, 7 September 2018 09:41 pmI managed to get out in the morning, to my nephew's sport's day. Remember those...?!

And I can never remember what this kind of tree is. There's lots of them in London, and they have these fab winter-Christmas-baubles all through winter... does anyone know?
I could feel a cold coming on - inevitable really, since my sister, who I'm staying with, had one last week. I was alright out in the fresh air, but I went from there to the health food shop for some raw honey (which I hear is even more soothing than Strepsils and the like when you have a cold), managed to cancel my work for two days, have soup and ice cream for dinner, stay up until about 9.30pm, and then that was it. I took my aching bones to bed - blargh!

Wednesday, 5 September 2018 12:57 amRoasted vegetable focaccia for lunch - I have got to remember to include thin slices of pumpkin in my sandwiches when I get home - it's lush! *g*
And another picture of gum blossom, cos I love it... *g*
I'm going to have to do something more interesting, aren't I... *g* Today was mostly about swapping my hire car - the Kia Rio that I had felt more plush, but the Mitsubishi Mirage is a much better drive - the back window is big and low enough to actually see out of (useful when you're reversing, you know...), the indicators actually stop and start when I want them to, not after some bizarre delay, and it can accelerate - even though it's an automatic. Although the seats are definitely not quite as comfortable - it's almost as if I have to sit up and drive... *g*

Photo-a-Day 2nd September - Sunday
Sunday, 2 September 2018 11:36 pmBreakfast out again today (even though it was eaten around lunchtime!), and just around the corner as we headed back was this mural, which I rather like.
In the garden next door to my sister's there was this flower...

...and in my brother's driveway, this gumtree still has a few blossoms.
Hope you're having (have had, will have had... *g*) a nice Sunday!

Sunday, 2 September 2018 12:09 amOkay, let's try this another way - I think I'm better if I make a formal commitment, so here I am - formally committing to a photo a day (okay, at least one, cos if I post one then I'll usually post more) throughout September (inspired a bit by
just_ann_now's August Photo-a-Days. *g*)
It's Saturday - thank goodness it's Saturday! Mostly. Apart from all the family stuff that must now bedealt with done. *g* So today started off with - the art of breakfast with my sister and brother...

...near some public art, of which there's quite a lot around. It's very cool to come across random public art.
And today ended with a drive with my mum, where we came across hundreds of kangaroos. It's been raining all day - I guess they like it!
I didn't see so many kangaroos (or half as many or a tenth as many, or probably even a hundredth as many) wild in the 17 years I spent growing up over here as I can see out in an hour's drive now. I don't know if we're just in the right place now (the edge of a big city...) and were in the wrong place back then (rural countryside!), or if there are other things that have happened to create a safer habitat for them, but - now if I visit Australia I see kangaroos!

Back where I once was
Friday, 10 August 2018 09:28 pmHere's a pic for all the people I know will appreciate it - rainy London!
I seem to be back in the UK, having barely posted about not being in the UK, which is a shame because I was not in the UK alot. The thing is, of course, not being in the UK meant either being off doing things, or else being too tired after doing things... But I have four days in London (well, three now), and although I must do some work and various chores, I will try and post some pics, cos I had a lovely time and ended up visiting five different countries too. Yeay travelling!
Oh, have the view from my window tonight too...

And the bliss of it being cool!

The lads and other lovely people in Germany
Saturday, 21 July 2018 03:50 pmIt's over a week since I last posted, despite my best intentions, but on the bright side, crazy-work is all but over, and on the very bright side I am sitting in a fab house in Germany, with six rather Pros-y people, and there has been coffee and cake, but before that there was Pros charades (excellent fun), and a walk to a castle, and breakfast (which is always excellent in Germany *g* - they have the best bacon), and before that last night there were Pros episodes, and Pros-ep Bingo, which was also rather fun, and dinner and a Pros episode quiz, which was very cool, and chat and just much relaxing and not working. *g*

And that's where I am right now... *g*
How're you doing? *g*

How're you doing? *g*
Thursday was yesterday...
Friday, 13 July 2018 11:30 pm...and it looked like this. That's a plane to Germany, that is. *g*

Then it looked like this...

The dark patches in the first one aren't lakes, they're forests! Gemany is still such a wooded country, how lucky... *g*
Friday was today...
...and it looked alot like work, but it also looked like this when I went out with
milomaus to help with foodsharing, which is just an excellent thing to do (and a nice counter to the thought of the "guest" currently in the UK)... *g*

I still have lots of work to do, and next week too, right up until that Friday, when I'm declaring my proper holiday starts. *g* I've not had a single day off since 19th May - I reckon I deserve a week or three, and I'm going to have them. Maybe I'll remember who I am, rather than what work is waiting for me!
How're you doing...?
